Re: Db killers asap
have a look at http://www.clubmsv.com/bike-home.aspx?g ... 2AodMUHlNw
lists the sound limits for each event.
in fact here's the acu regs for oulton park, 102db at 5k rpm for twins.
Noise Restrictions
The regulations relating to noise levels are required as a result of environmental and/or planning reasons relevant to
MSV venues and so there is no room for discretionary relaxation. They are reasonable restrictions which ensure
activities at the MSV venues create the minimum amount of disturbance to our neighbours. Although these
requirements can seem restrictive, we operate our retail driving activities, using single seater racing cars and
sportscars, in full compliance with these limits. These measures are required to ensure that the majority of track
day customers who do not attempt to flaunt the noise limits are able to continue to enjoy their track days without
the relevant event or future events having to be restricted due to the acts of others.
Static Tests
All vehicles participating in track days at Oulton Park must conform to a noise limit, on a static test, of 105 dB(A),
save where the track day is the second bike track day at the circuit in any 7-day period, when the limit is reduced to
102dB(A). Please contact our Track Day Sales team if you are in any doubt.
Noise checks to establish adherence to the relevant limit will be conducted in accordance with current measuring
methods as defined by the ACU. Essentially this means that the noise test shall be measured from a position 0.5m
behind the exhaust at a 45 degree angle, with the engine running at the following revs:
Engine Size 1 cylinder 2 cylinder 3 cylinder 4 cylinder
+750cc (4 stroke) 4,500rpm 5,000rpm 5,000rpm 5,500rpm
If MSV is of the opinion that any vehicle does not comply with the applicable noise restrictions, the relevant vehicle
will be prevented from participating in the remainder of the event unless and until the noise emissions are addressed
to bring them within the applicable limit.
Drive-by Monitoring
Whilst MSV do not currently impose a drive-by limit at Oulton Park, in the interests of ensuring that the spirit of the
noise level limits is respected, MSV do monitor drive-by levels using noise meters located around the circuit.
If the results of the drive-by monitoring show that a particular vehicle is generating drive-by sound levels
appreciably higher than vehicles with comparable static test results, then MSV staff will notify the participant, and
the relevant vehicle shall not be permitted to take further part in the event until the participant has addressed the
noise levels generated by their vehicle to bring them within acceptable sound levels.
Further participation in the track day may be precluded if acceptable drive-by limits cannot be achieved.
i'm sure one of the sellers on ebay is based in bradford?? not too far from you?
the one called 'getbidding' or something similar who makes the botch welded ones for a tenner each.
for a quick fix you could get a pair of 48mm car tailpipe trims, (the chav chrome pipes)
bash the end flat in an x, then drill a few lines of holes along the sides to make a short baffle.
drill and fix it with a nut & bolt.
might be crude but it will dampen the noise and get you on the track.
theyre only a few £ each from halfords or any car accessory shop.
that's assuming your tail pipe is 48mm - most are.
if not just get whatever fits and do the same, like crimp it over like a bullet and pepper it with holes.
all it has to do is make the sound bounce round inside the can, doesn't have to be too restrictive or it will kill the hp.
btw what cans do you have???

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Re: Db killers asap
Cheers for that, the ones i ordered are coming from Louth, race performance parts or something. The internal diameter on the spout on my can is 53mm,and the perf tube is 50mm,what i need to know is the diameter and length of the baffle, that is inserted into the perf tube. Not nervous about the track day, just worried about losing my dosh!

Re: Db killers asap
posted a few more links for you bud! tbh anywhere selling pipes will probably sell you some baffles.
good luck!
try these first - they have a shop in fleetwood and donny
http://www.carboncan.co.uk/products.html
or theres a whole bunch of suppliers here: http://www.motorcycle.co.uk/Parts/Exhausts.aspx
i'd be tempted to just make some.
if it's 2" pipe just go to a local exhaust fitting bay and pinch a length of pipe out the waste, then do the crimp & drill thing.

Re: Db killers asap
Forgot about carbon can company, and i used to live in fleetwood!Might give them a bell when i get desperate.Gonna make some, can get material from work, reckon 30mm or 40mm id baffle then a circular plate interference fit in the spout. Will take some wadding with me to wrap the baffle as a last resort.Thanks.
Re: Db killers asap
If they're round cans, just rotate them so that the inlets point away from the noise gun.
If they're going to test at 45 degrees sideways from your bike, point your outlets at the sky!
It's gotta help, surely.......

Re: Db killers asap
Just done this today
Ran test at 6000 rpm and at 45degrees from the rear
I have video tape of all three runs
They are viper cans straight through and the DB killers are from Performance something in Louth I think, ebay purchase
Sound meter is 1 meter from right hand side exhaust, 60cm from floor.
std cans at 1500 rpm 92 to 94 db (Tickover)
std cans at 6000 rpm 100 to 102 db
Vipers with db killers fitted 106 - 108 db
Viper straight through 110 - 112 db
Noise would be lower at 5000 rpm.
Don't know by how much but I'll test that tomorrow.
I'll also do it at 0.5 meters and 45 degrees

Re: Db killers asap
Cheers for that Tony, but will try and copy something off ebay, cant get into work till tomorrow though,so am gonna spend the day drawing something up,i know they do a simple job but i want to be on track on friday.Styler that info is handy, the baffles i ordered come from the same place as yours, the advert reckoned it would knock more off than what you got.At 106db you would not have passed oultons noise test.Thats why i am gonna take some wadding with me as well as some wire wool to cram down them as a last resort!Noise moaners shouldnt move next to a race track eh?

Re: Db killers asap
Just a thought, standard cans are supposed to be 80db.I think the noise tester i used is knackered, gonna get a reading off me mates race r6,that has been tested at 106,so if the meter shows higher i know its that....maybe

Re: Db killers asap
can you not fit your standards back on for the day>???
if you havent got them you are welcome to borrow mine but they have a few holes drilled - nowhere near 100db though/
not much difference over standard except a bit of burbling on over-run
theyre sat here doing nawt atm - feel free

Re: Db killers asap
Thanks for the offer, but it has an r6 backend, and high levels,so standard cans arent an option. Will get it sorted though, like i said i have a big handfull of wire wool!

Re: Db killers asap
on an old kawa i had with a 4-1 piper i just banged a big 1/2" drive socket in the end with the 12 point star showing from the back - looked brill and sounded fantastic!
sounded like a turbo dump valve on overrun and had a sort of whistle to it at high revs.
another option for a cheap fix.

Dont use ordinary wire wool...it WILL burn!!! Get some stainless wool from an exhaust supplier
