Hi there and welcome, look into the common faults with the storm unless they have already been done.

Rectifier.
Cam Chain Tensioner.

Also have a look at Operation Storm meet, see if you interested in coming out to play.

Top Man Baz, thanks

i spent about an hour or so looking over the site last night, and even though there are no funny noises that could relate to the CCT i'm still going to to book it in and have them checked and i also believe that something can be done to prevent further damage if they do go?
also going to order one of the R1/R6 finner Recti. any specific model or Year?
cheers

I think that the RR from an R1/R6 can be any as they use the same throughout the years, I put an aftermarket one on as I was not in a position to do the mod, are you handy with a soldering iron as the plug on the storm does not fit the one on the R1/R6 rectifier, so you will have to do some tweaking.

With regards to the CCT, I would suggest manual ones, then you can rag the bike as hard as you like and no worries, if your going to fit automatics, I would recommend doing the mod to these to stop them cause a shagged head when they fail, cause the automatics DO fail.

best mods you can do are remove the fairing and send it to me for safe disposal, and seeing as the storm has loads of torque, you won't need gears, so i can also recycle the gearchange and clutch lever for you as well.

i noticed where you live it's all right hand turns, so you might as well take off the left mirror and indicators too.
all the unnecessary parts you donate will be used to make a piece of modern art for a local charity...

Greetings & welcome gmc! There's a vast amount of info & experience on the forum - if you've got a prob, someone will know how to help. Oh, and the Yam R/R fettle is really easy - there's a post somewhere here; pictures and everything! Enjoy.
