hope to be getting a firestorm soon

Post by wheeliekidnot »

hello 1 and all
just in the early stages of looking for a firestorm, had lots of bikes over the years,zx9,blade,vfr,ect.
got an 06 fz1 fazer at the mo,nice enough, just a bit to revvy an engine for me.so looking for a change
need some advice found an 05 1 at fowlers of bristol.what should i look out for?. done 15k full service history,
looks ok.cam chain issues,reg/rectifior problems.any advicewould be gladly taken. read lots of reviews and they
sound just the ticket, nice spread of power, handle well, less of a licence buster than the fazer! dont need 150 hp if iam honest with my self.
only good for bragging rights really.hope some 1 can help
virtual drinks on me
cheers wheeliekidnot :D
ps sorry about the lack of gramer and punctuation been a long time since i was at school

Hi WKN,

Welcome to the forum

These bikes are pretty bombproof tbh-as long as it's been looked after it shouldn't pose a potential problem.

See rumpleforeskins post farer down the Welcome Inn for pointers  Enjoy

R R problems are easily solved and post little unless u cook ur battery then its an excuse to buy the uprated battery.

The cct is not an issue, unless again it fails. I'd ur mechanically minded u can modify the automatics in there. If u have money then u can buy ape manuals.

I have converted mind and I am doing some more this weekend for one of the guys on here.

Don't bet on it, Storm's pull ever so well and very quickly, be mindful of the front wheel torquing up in the air too - much prefer mine over any other bike i've had including a GSXR6 k1.
Happy ridin'

Deceptively quick, Storms.
Because the engine's not revving much it doesn't sound like you're going anywhere like too fast- until you look at the speedo....

Blag a couple of hours test ride (or find a local forum member who'll let you try theirs).

Otherwise keep an eye on the "Sales and Wants" section on here- there's often a bargain to be had.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Found one in Fowlers ay?
That must make you a local lad

Try to get them to do the 16k service, it's the big one (read expensive) unless you do that sort of thing yourself, then you can use it as a bargaining tool to get the price down a bit
Good luck with the purchase

Welcome aboard WKN

An 05 Firestorm model should definitely have the upgraded rectifier. It was the earlier (pre 2001) models that had no cooling fins on them.

There's quite a bit on CCT's in the Workshop knowlege base. It all depends what you want to do. Either fit Ape style (fixed) CCT's. Or fit the stopper mod, this mod allows the original CCT to function as Mr Honda intended and means you don't have to work out the tension required.

Good luck with getting a Firestorm, as Pete mentioned, a very good idea to test ride one first as the big V twin characteristics are completely different to an in line four.

Chris.

Well hello & welcome

I love my Storm, and I'm just pleased I am able to ride and control such a fine specimen of a bike and as long as I'm enjoying the time in the saddle, :P that is whats important. It is my guilty pleasure! :p

I love the SW and would live there myself if it were up to me as be a bit nearer both my girls, one living outside Swansea and one in Cardiff.. Enjoy, hope tomorrow is all you want it to be and be lucky!
