Breather???

Post by Muddy »

Tinkering last night and discovered what looks like a breather loose on nearside of rear cyclinder.....the end looks like it is a pushfit into somewhere - it has a white nylon end....any ideas?, i will try and photgraph later in work.

Cheers.

Having just had a nightmare balls up non starting freakout what the feck is wrong with this muther type weekend, which entailed removing the tank to get to the carbs, I think you will find that the breather pipe with the white nylon spigot belongs/connects to the smaller of the two tank breathers.
You may need to unbolt front & rear of tank then lift rear of tank, prop it up & look have a fish around. On my bike (Now running OK by the way, it was the vac pipe off!!) this breather is two part comes off the bottom of the tank approx 6'' or so then the join with the white spigot, the other pipe comiing off the base of the tank is the overflow/breather & is a much fatter bore pipe.

I take it you have the 'lose end' of the pipe? If you need more room to fish about just disconect the tank sender unit, that should give you a bit more room to get your hand in. There are some good pics in the workshop knowlagebase section showing the pipes on the fule tap & what goes where.

Agree with MacV2 the link to the pics is below.

I take it the pipe you refer to is on the left of the pics.

Indded thats the pic I meant.

Just to say that picture is looking from the front towards the rear. The discription I gave you would be propping the tank up at the back & looking/working from the rear of the bike. Hope that makes sense.

Think it does having re-read it 4 times before posting, but then i'm easily confused. :)

Do not think it has. I will take the tank off this evening and have a good look round.

no need to take off the tank bud, the breather stub you are looking for is just to the right of the fuel tap, looking toward the front of the bike - it's approx 10mm long & 3mm diameter.
you should be able to feel it if you lift the tank a bit at the rear

it doesn't have a spring clip on and should just push over the stub easily, unless you have massive hands!

best done with a cold engine!

thats the little non return valve on the end of the breather - there will be a 2" piece of 8mm rubber pipe if you feel just to the right & front of the fuel tap - it pushes in there
