been out a few times now the questions :)

Post by pikeman »

Hi all,

Had a few rides out, love the bike really light and agile but seem to get up to silly speeds very easily :angel: Very civilised too.Soem questions though;

1. What is the best way to sit to be comfortable?
2. Vibes, had a bit of numb fingers usual or is there a fix?
3. Does the larger tank from later models just fit earlier ones ?
4. anyone put fireblade forks on, does this work?

Loving the bike though :), even if a little uncomfortable after my vstrom !!

Answers......

-1) on your butt facing forward usually works :D
-2)Can put bar risers on or VFR bars, they are about 20mm higher and a bit further back.
-3) Leave the original tank as you need to stop after 100miles, because of numb hands and butt
-4)dunno!!!!!!!!!!

vfr bars, you will have to make a few minor mods with a dremel - cut the fairing from under the mirror mount to the edge so there's about 1/2" left under the screen,
otherwise the master cylinders and switchgear will foul the fairing on full lock also you will need to grind the locating peg off the throttle housing where it lines up with a hole in the std bars, same with the kill switch housing.

they do make a big difference to the riding position though if you prefer it more upright, but high speed isn't as comfy.
for pics look in my intro thread. fairing looks bob on cut down, doesn't look butchered at all...

the cables and hoses will reach, but i had to shave a bit off the lugs that hold the hoses diagonal to get them to point downwards.
you can bend the brackets a bit as well to get a bit more brake hose.

heard someone say they didnt cut the fairing but instead moved the fairing bracket up a few inch by undoing the 2 bolts on the frame & just use the top bolt in the bottom fairing bracket hole.
duuno how like cos the rest of the fairing mounts wouldn't line up???

my vfr bars cost me 47£, risers are 30 - 50 off ebay, whereas the comfort conversion with new top yoke & sports bars are like 250 - 300

i put a 19L tank on mine and it just needs a 10mm tee to join the single feed pipe to the 2 carb pipes.
no vacuum pipe needed so be sure to blank it off or the bike will run like sh1t!

seen a few mods with the much bigger (23L?) vrf800 tank but imo it looks sh1t.

you shouldn't really be getting excessive vibes through the bars???? is your chain too tight? tyres ok?
as fsm says, don't grip on so tight!
why do you want to lower the pegs? :confused

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Have some VFR750 bars in the garage for sale - £25 plus p&p if you want them.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

mark it freehand with a felt pen or dry wipe marker.
when you have a nice equal contour, use masking tape on the keepy bit.
real easy with a cheap dremel off ebay & the largest cut-off discs.
a hour's work at the most, then a bit of touch up to finish.

just make sure you do the pinch bolts up very tight if you use vfr bars.

I got VFR 750 bars on mine, NO mods at all. they bolted straight on. dont catch the fairing or the tank.
They make a massive difference to the ride, I went from Hereford to Mallory park with no sore wrists or dead fingers

Hmm, interesting. I tried the VFR bars on mine and couldn't get them to miss the fairing or tank so didn't bother in the end.

To come and look? or nick it

I got them of ebay for £28 delivered. i looked into my ebay history the bars were advertised for "FR to FV" models.
I am not to sure if different models of VFR's have different bars on them.

As my memory returns, the only mod that was made is to the bar end weights. the VTR bars were hollow but the VFR bars
are solid ally. being a tight butt I modified the VTR bar end weights to fit the VFR bars instead of buying new ones 8O

Buy thicker gloves, it's cheaper.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re the forks:
You can swap them for CBR900 covensional fork without much work, although not sure if the ride height will be slightly lower, quite a few done this mod with good results.

If you wanted to go for USD forks there are a lot more parts and mods required:
Forks - CBR929 - 954 - SP1/2
Yokes - CBR929 or 954 fit on the storm headstock
Front wheel + discs - CBR929 - 954 or SP1/2
Clip-ons - CBR929 -954
Front mudgaurd - from the bike the forks are off

Mods - Radiators require moving back approx 15mm to stop the fork fowling on the top hose.
steering stops require a little grinding to get full travel, various cabling mods.

I went for the SP1 fork as the ride height is similar to the convensional forks, has made a big difference to the handling, but riding position is a little more like a sports bike, not as comfortable.

Your choice depends what you want out of the bike.
