New purchases this weekend
New purchases this weekend
Got a bit carried away as I've just been paid, and stuck in a bid on a nice Storm engine, only thing wrong is the crank is bent.
Not a problem as I have two spares in good condition, so an easy rebuild.
Came complete with carbs and airbox, so a bit of a touch there.
And new neighbours moved in; I popped in to say welcome and borrow tools or whatever if you want, talk naturally fell to bikes, and they said they had one for sale.
Turned out to be a DirectBikes scooter, 50cc, 1.8 miles and unregistered.
They come assembled but you have to register them with DVLA yourself- apparently the bloke had bought it as a station commuter but then never got round to registering it.
So £300 changed hands, and my daughter has her first wheels- when I get round to registering it.....
Been stood for a year, but still fired up with a couple of kicks on old petrol, so I'll have a little clean out and get it running nicely, and check over the thing to make sure it was put together properly, before she gets to ride it.
Ah well, better get selling something to pay for it all- anyone fancy a Honda CM100 (Honda 90 Cub forerunner) from 1965 as a rebuild project?
7000 miles from new, easy rebuild, it'll probably run if I kicked it, but would need a new exhaust.
It's not a giveaway, as they're getting quite collectable, and seem to fetch about £1000 when tidied.
If anyone's interested I can do the piccy thing.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: New purchases this weekend
So you have seen that engine of eblag, I was thinkg of getting it as a bit of a project and to find out how these engines come appart and go back together.
I was thinking that I could test run chaging that main drive bearing that we think causes the clutch to bite, as you said you probably have to split the engine to get it out.

There's another one on at the moment with a damaged front cylinder head, and side damage.
God knows what speed he was doing when he hit whatever it was......

mate had a cd200 benly & dropped it on the left, smashed the timing cover and bent the crank.tony.mon wrote:Got a bit carried away as I've just been paid, and stuck in a bid on a nice Storm engine, only thing wrong is the crank is bent.
.
i fixed it for him by twatting it back with a block of wood & hammer til it stopped vibrating, then put a new flywheel and casing on it.
it ran great & no feelable bearing damage lol!

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: New purchases this weekend
If it is just a getting a big tw@ with a hammer to straighten the crank then maybe I should bid on it. Lol.
Love you loads benny.

Re: New purchases this weekend
Just collected the engine, from Stafford.
Honda company car did the journey at 72.8 miles to the gallon of diesel!
Fair enough, I went the whole way at 50 on the cruise control, but even so.....
Quite impressive, really.
Not so impressive is the fact that I just got lost my job again
so rather wish I'd not spent that money.
Still, I have the time to rebuild it now, so anyone want a properly rebuilt standard engine, with new big ends and mains?

sh1t news matey, worth giving some thought to what benny said, bloke round our way is a mobile bike mechanic, got a full workshop in the back of his luton van!!

4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul...........
Re: New purchases this weekend
Thing is, I love messing with bikes- as a hobby.
I've always shied away from doing it for a living, as I don't think I'd get the same enjoyment- and then probably wouldn't want to work on my own bikes in my spare time.
Having said that, I'm perfectly happy fixing Storms, and TBH any other bike, really, so maybe....
So there's a new thread on Workshop- fill your boots!

Sorry too hear about your job falling through again Tony. I'm afraid it's a sign of the times.
Best wishes for your new plan
Chris.
