One Happy Chappy

Post by pinkyfloyd »

As you fellow stormers already know this you'll find my tale common. Myself, as you have noticed, am not only new to this forum I am new to the Firestorm too having only bought one a couple of months ago.

My tale goes something like this:

Today I went out on the bike for a run. The first real ride out since I bought the thing a few months ago. Its been a winter workhorse getting me to and from work and shops but never really moved from second or third gear in weeks.

A friend (gixxer 600) and I went out for a run. Up the A32 towards Loomies and on to petersfield and back to Portmouth via the A3, M3. Nice road that A32 with enough national speed limits to keep you interested and the odd slow town to drive around. Every national limit sign I passed I opened her up and left the gixxer behind. The pull of the VTR surprised me and speeds of up to 90 felt comfortable and slow.

Pulled into Loomies for a pee stop, as one does, and a fellow biker there directed us to a better road than the old A272. We followed along and he was right. Fantastic twisties and I had a chance to see how the Storm corners, Which seemed to be better than I do.

The inevetable refuel stop at Petersfield (Why do they make the tank so small!?) and onto the A3 home. I let Gixxer in front. Happily crusing in 6th at 70ish it seemed every time I twisted the throttle I was sitting on his pillion seat with him. The torque of the bike is deceptive and I found myself backing off a few times before deciding "bugger this" and shot passed him at around 110 with the bike still pulling.

Needless to say that the bike had a good run today and I had a good laugh doing it. The clatter of the engine as I took off drowned out the Gixxer engine behind me and even he said it sounded great.

I came to the conclusion:

I know that the gear box is clunky. I know that the fuel range is piss poor with refuels every 200 meters and I know that the massive carbs and twin engine drink more than an alcho on benefit day............. But I dont care. If I can sit at 100mph and feel like I'm only doing half that then I'll gladly stop every few miles to feed the beast. Everyone else can get to where theyre are going in one tank. I'll get there in 3 but I'll be smiling the most!
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

I know all those roads really well

When things dry up, make sure you let me know if you are gonna go out.

You need to try the A272 from Petersfield towards Brighton as early as possible on a Sunday in the summer. YOU WILL LOVE IT on the storm

See you about.

I was going to head down that way. Instead I took the A3 home. Babys had a stinking cold and I didnt want to leave mummy too long with a snotty miserable 9 month old :D

But I did find a lovely road. Instead of turning down the A272 at loomies towards petersfield carry on up the A32 until you get to a turn off to the right heading towards Steep. Thats a stunning road.

I'll pm anyone who wants to head out next time. Doesnt happen as often as I would like for baby reasons but I do now and then get out for a spin.

Yeah there is some lovely roads that way too.

Another must if you haven't already is the A339 to Basingstoke

Carry on up the A32 from Loomies to Alton. When you get to Chawton roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A31 (Dual carriageway) and then tae the first left onto the A339 and stay on it.

Watch out the first time on it though as it has a section with adverse camber whilst going over a blind summit. Also has a few tightening bends that are difficult to read the first time :) Once you know it, its awesome.

Next time you pop into Loomies consider this little run.

Sorry for the HEEEUUUUUGGGGEEE link!! :D

Fast, twisty, bits of it dusty and its quite exhilerating (sp) when you get it right!

I'm also new to the 'Storm, but not V twins, and I am addicted!!!

Buckland!! pfft. Much posher than that mate. North Gunwharf!! lol well its Portsea but North Gunwharf sounds much more exclusive don't you think?

It'll take about 5 mins to get to Cosham once on the M271 lol.

As for the guitar playing, back in the day I used to play floyd songs note for note. My favourite being the another brick in the wall solo. Loved it. If I remember right, on the album, just after the solos finishes, there is an annoying scotsman (no offence Al) that says "Wrong, do it again" which was quite annoying when trying to learn it. lol

My mistake. I work in south sea which isnt too far from you. Should call in sometime to the craneswater snooker club on a weekend evening and say hi to the long haired irish guy behind the bar...... ME!

As for the guitar playing. I havent the dexterity to do solo's but can strum quite a few tunes on acoustic. I have a stunning les paul rep that I rarely take out of its case because I cant do the thing justice. But would love to learn how to make the thing sing.
