snatchy/unsettled

Post by Eclectic »

Hi again folks. I bought my 'storm and first big bike and infact bike in 10 years yesterday, which I discussed in the welcome thread.

Anyways, Ive barely covered any miles yet, I did 17 on the test ride and covered about 10 more since. Was hoping for a good ride out tonite as got her taxed today, unfortunately its raining.

Anyways, I just popped out to ASDA just now to get a wee something and noticed at a steady throttle it appears to be unsettled, like it trys to go then settles then tries to go again over and over.

Could this be the R/R? Or perfectly normal? or something else?

Many thanks,
Nigel.

carb balance badly out of sync perhaps
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Balancing the carbs is definitely worth trying, also new spark plugs if you don't think they've been changed for a while. You could also check the air filter to see if it's a standard Honda paper element type filter and not an after market one such as a K&N.

She's booked in for next Wednesday for a clean and balance. I'll do the plugs and filter ASAP.

Thanks for the input gents!

Blocked idle jets.
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.

While it's in the garage next Wednesday get the mechanic to check the type of air fitted (as I suggested in my previous post). The main reason I suggested this is, if it has an after market filter fitted, the carbs may have been re-jetted with freer flowing after market can's fitted by a previous owner. Now the bike has it's original silencers fitted this would be up-setting the running of the engine, stilfing it. Only a suggestion, but IMHO one worth considering.

If the carbs have been re-jetted and you intend to fit after market can's at some stage, I would see how she runs then before changing jets.

That makes perfect sense and something I hadn't considered.

I was gonna buy a new filter and get the mechanic to put it in as he was going there anyway.
Perhaps I had best atleast check the brand that's already in it this weekend.

Thanks Chris,
Nigel.

My old man rides a Tuono Factory, so I asked him if his is unsettled on a steady throttle, and he said no. I too wondered if it was just normal Vee running.

Find another local owner and swap bikes for 10 mins.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Picked her up and took her for a good ride out. She acts the same as before though.

Infac t, maybe a small flat spot that wasnt there before, but I could be imagining it. I went to Halfrauds to get a few wee bits and once I started her up again she didnt like any throttle, farting a bit then as I put her in gear and went there was a wee pop from up the top.

So, popped home, used the C spanner I got to adjust the back to the 3rd notch, and decided to give it a poper bit of wellie about. Upon starting the bike there was a strong smell of petrol for a few minutes.

Im thinking Plugs next?
