Re: how did i reverse the gears???
lol you put the lever on the shaft upside down.
it should be pointing downwards, not up
sorry to hear of your misfortune...
i love this quote though --->

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

I had thought of reversing the shift on mine after a friend told me it was more "natural" Is it easy to do then?

yeh or you can just fit a pitbike gearchange lever & do away with the linkage.
i wouldnt say it feels more natural.... feels quite odd tbh.
some refer to it as racing shift - dunno why

, and cheers benny all sorted now

Its racing because on the track at extreme left hand lean angles there isn't room to get your foot under the lever to change up, so it is reversed to get around the problem.benny hedges wrote:yeh or you can just fit a pitbike gearchange lever & do away with the linkage.

Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Re: how did i reverse the gears???
Doh! That'll mean I can throw away the bit of string I tied round the lever and connected to the chinbar of my helmet so I could change up just by tilting my head backwards.....Although it passed scrutineering ok...Stratman wrote:Its racing because on the track at extreme left hand lean angles there isn't room to get your foot under the lever to change up, so it is reversed to get around the problem.benny hedges wrote: some refer to it as racing shift - dunno why
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

in 09, on the mot tester's wall there was a tester's magazine article on a bike brought in for test....tony.mon wrote:

it was a gs125 suzi... the throttle had broken so the guy had ingeniously attached the throttle cable to the rear brake pedal so if you pressed the pedal the bike would accelerate.
press it harder and it would brake (while revving the head off the engine lol.
it had obviously been like that for a while as the inner cable had worn a groove through the frame paint...
it failed btw

if i can find the pic on my pc i'll ad it - it's brilliant!

Re: how did i reverse the gears???
Apologies in advance for the thread hijack, but...
Many years ago I had a little cafe racer, which had a push/pull throttle like the Storm's.
I fitted twin Amal carbs, which only needed the pull side, it used a spring return.
Being cheap, I used a ball type cable nipple I had, instead of buying a drum one, and sure enough after a couple of months it pulled through.
I refitted it but whenever I wanted a big handful it slipped out again.
So as a "get-you-home" bodge I put it into the push side, and sort of left it there, got quite used to it after a while.
Stayed like that for about 2 months, as I recall....Stopped me mates from wanting a go, though, so all good.

years ago had an nsr250 with a reverse "race" gear linkage.. soon got used to it n never had a problem.. uptill me mate got his shiny new 1100 blackbird n let me have a go.. tall first gear this.. select second.. FECK.....
luckily barring sore nads.. no damage done..
