Best mod for vtr1000

Post by wingysataday »

I've looked at the dyno's and the jet kit is crap! It makes your bike run worse so I went ahead and got the two brothers carbon fiber cans and a K&N air filter. I'm hoping this is a good combo??? Is there any secret mod I should know about? Also where is the fuel/air mixture screw? :?: :?: :?:

Hi wingy.... :)

1.Search for suspension mods , front & rear , there's been loads of stuff on here about that.

2. Drop a tooth on the front cog ,. or go up on the rear , or do both

Tech guys 'll be along soon to talk you thru' engine mods etc.

Las Vegas heh?? Visited a few years ago , had a right laugh. How do you get to sleep ??

Welcome aboard

K&N with pipes is a great mod but you need to get it jetted to suit.
I've actually got a PiperCross filter but now regularly get 120 before reserve out of a 1998 16L tank - Money well spent

And tehn do the gearing mod, you'll be amazed at the difference a £16 sprocket can make

Ben, did you re-jet it after installation of PiperCross filter? It sounds very good mod, it's just to be frank I do not want to reject my bike without having access to Dynostand :( hence the question

The front sprocket mod is the cheapes and most effective mod.

If you are stuck for jets ive got the remaining ones from my old dynojet kit and std needles. There are the std size jets, and 2 pairs of bigger ones if they are any good to you?

if they are PM me and i will check the size and recontact.

I originally fitted it without jetting and it was OK but had a flat spot at the lower end
Then had it re-jetted and WOW!! The throttle reponse is SOOO much crisper.
Have a look at the before and after dyno chart in the gallery
http://www.abercon.co.uk/vtr1000/displa ... Pipercross filter. Before and after re-jetting

There's also a dyno with my before and after and Geoff's old Camel storm.
http://www.abercon.co.uk/vtr1000/displa ... omment=Ben (pipercross - Revolution jetted - Remus road legals)Geoff (K&N - dynojet stage 3 kit - Art race cans)

Looks like the K&N trades a bit of top end for a fair dollop of bottom end grunt

The PiperCross is just another make of filter.

Whereas the K&N uses the standard Honda filter as a template (big plastic plate with small square hole in the middle) and then their own filter element, the PiperCross one uses the whole area of the airbox and has filter foam over its entirety
As a result the pipercross one flows more air than the K&N. This gives less power at the bottom end (coz the air speed is slower due to the big aperture) but more up top.
Bear in mind on the graphs that mine has road legal high level Remus' on whereas Geoffs had out and out race cans which should give more peak power.

cool thanks. I just ordered two new little filters that go inside the airbox they are like this foam looking stuff. I also purchased all 3 new exauhst gaskets and a K&N. So I hope everthing works out good!

If you really want to be able to ride more quickly, spend some cash on a suspension upgrade. Stiffer front springs and thicker oil, and a replacement rear shock. Best £500 I ever spent, and I'm really pissed off that Honda haven't sorted this out by now - it would add pennies to the cost of a new VTR, if only they could be arsed to make some changes.

Cans and filters is just willy waving.

I've got Carbon Can Co high level pipes on mine, btw;)

Fair point, but if you fit the filter first, then the money you save on fuel will pay for the shock/forks etc

Ben

Mine must be even smaller than yours coz I've got Remus road legals!!
