after a bit of help, i have a 54 skoda octavia mk2 diesel, the engine has developed a knocking and before i take it down the garage and get butt fecked! just thought i'd ask ere, a bloke down the road say's he's sure it sounds like the "big end" is going? is this repairable or am i looking at a recon engine? if its poss to repair it what do you think i'd be looking at (rough ball park figure) seen recon engines on fleabay for about a grand with low miles, how many hours labour would i be looking at for a engine swap?? dont really wat to scrap her as its been a really good car! hardly a mark on it even after 194 tho miles!!
mucho grassy ass

If it's a big end it'll b louder under load, uphill in a high gear at low revs should do it.
If it's mains, it'll be a regular rumbling at all loads.
But either way, it's a replacement lump, I'm afraid.
Price up a replacement car before getting financially committed, you may get some scrap value for yours, even with a duff engine.
Why not buy a scrapped wreck, same model, but with crash damaged bodywork?
At least if it's a properly wrecked one you know it was running ok at the point of impact.......
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
cheers tony, yes its defo louder under load, more so when pulling away from a junction/lights, if i get thro the gears quickly and into top by 40 mph you can hardly hear it! looks like im on the look out for another engine cheers for the reply matey
