collecting a bike from sweden???

Post by mad4it028 »

hi i have the possable chance to buy a bike in sweden, the bike is uk registered but has no tax or mot although it is mint!
now if i do go i want to ride it back i have a traders policy so covered for any car bike or van and aloud 3 days a year europe cover , but what do i do about tax and mot??
the only reason i would be doing this is because the bike is cheap enough for me to fly over and ride it back ( free touring) and still make 2-3k profit!

if i was to get there style mot and tax over there would that cover me?
would i even be able to do there style tax n mot being as its on uk plates?

i could use trade plates but im pretty sure i cant use them in europe??
bit of a piss take but buying it then booking straght in for an mot in uk??

yes i could collect it in a van but if that was my only option i dont think ide bother 2000 mile round trip in a transit van hold no appeal to me
bikes bought dead or alive crash damged , none runners , abandond projects

Take a ferry from Sweden to Denmark then to Harwich, pick it up from there in a van, or bring it all the way back on the train - as it now might be a tad chilly and snowy for a road trip....

i would suggest trying to get the swedish mot (but it will only be valid for sweden so its your shout really), and then book the bike into your local mot station in the uk so that when you ride from the port to home you will be covered, where i live in spain the most important document is the insurance, which you have. if the bikes on uk plates the tax is not important until you are on uk roads. at which point you can explain to pc plod if needs be that you had just bought it from abroad if you get stopped on the way home. i brought my car back from spain with the same docs that you have and it wasn't a problem, you will probably need a green card and some sort of travel insurance for yourself tho.

Just get a mate with a van to meet you at the docks; that way you can have a drink on the boat back.
You will blow your profit if you try to buy a drink there.....
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
