Great VTR Info for a Newbie-

Post by ricksniderworks »

Hi all - joining the site from Minneapolis, Mn USA -
Wish I would have become familiar with this site and the good VTR info provided earlier, as in October I acquired a mint red '98 Superhawk w/27K miles. Awesome motorcycle.

After about 40 miles of glorious riding, the battery went flat. After confirming the battery as still very much good, proceeded to test the stator, which was also performing fine. Next look - the regulator looked highly suspect as the previous owner had his own 2- wire connection to the unit to run an electronic vest, and these were somewhat burnt/heat affected. In finding your website as well as http://www.superhawkforum.com - both revealed helpful info/posts on the general 'regulator' issue with the earlier unfinned VTR regulator and their tendency to go belly up. And that's w/o it powering a vest! I replaced mine with the updated / finned regulator from Mr. Honda.

So along with this good help, I've taken great interest in the sites' posts on being proactive with CCT fixes - such as the stopper mod , or going to aftermarket manual CCTs. I'm going to consider the latter as a good investment in the future, and fun Winter fix project - going with some red anodized APE units. I look forward to seeing how these fit and adjust on this silky beast!

No worries! - Thanks for all your help !

Can't wait to ride it next Spring.

Hi and welcome to the club Rick. How long do you think it will be until your first modification? These bikes have a habit of encouraging their owners to play.

Greetings to the owners club and with yet another red un'.

Try contacting Mark Krieger > mkrieger002 at columbus.rr.com from Delaware Ohio to sort yourself out with manual CCTs. Just a couple or three hours to fit using the step-by-step instructions in the workshop knowledgebase.

http://www.kriegercamchaintensioners.com

You might want rewire in the heated elements using a relay switch directly to the battery as is recommended when fitting heated grips and accessories - seems odd to have it wired to R/R.

And pics we love pics!
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Welcome, Rick.

Get the spanners out! (or wrenches, in your case).
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
