just managed to link an apple airport express to my home wifi system and then to my hifi, and now I can play all my iTunes library over wifi from the desk computer, the iPad, the wife's I-phone etc. Can also play songs off YouTube or any other Internet site on the iPad and direct the sounds over the wifi network to the hifi speakers.
Was expecting a struggle as my desk computer has no wifi and my router is a bit old school and neither are from the world of apple, but using the iPad I was able to direct the express node to the home network and link them all together.....I have already pissed off the mrs who was trying to watch emerdale when I wanted to show off the new toy, so now I have to tell you lot

Good work

Did you have to do any portforwarding on you router and does the express node show as a normal 192.168 address?
I did look into Squeezebox at one point but I have a good enough sound system on the PC for what I need. If I had a better amp set up then I'd definitely look at squeezebox again.
It is all hidden inside the apple tools, so just pops up as an airplay speaker option, and you select where you want the music to come out of. Will allow you to play to multiple speakers if you want, so you could have 1 in every room....you can even set the volume independently for each one.
Is the best solution for me as I prefer music to computers, so all the money is in the HiFi, and the computer has basic speakers and is stashed in a small bedroom up stairs. But when over 50% of my music is now only digital (still have a turntable, but now I have recorded all my vinyl to MP3 as well I don't use it), this solution gives me instant acess to all of it, and the iPad makes a great remote control to search for the next song, or making up a play list....and if someone wants a song I don't have, I just find it on YouTube and play it out the sound system as well
