Hanging up the leathers eek
Hanging up the leathers eek
Hi all, i have come to the xonclusion that its time to hang up the leathers.
Bought my storm about three weeks ago with great plans and intentions. The bike has been parked and not looked at since.
Not helped by problems with my back and neck. I have had great times. The past few years i have had 2 or 3 bikes a year not settleing on any.
What next who knows.
Anybody feeling the time is near to pack up or have packed up.

Probably just the winter blues mate, come summer you will be thinking different.
How bad if your neck? i have an injury due to a moto-x accdent years ago, had phisio for a ages its still really bad in the cold especially noticeable when its wet and your tucked up in the fairing
Dont know what it is but it like a bone moves around about the 3rd Vertebrae down from the skull, can go a month with no pain, then can last a month or so constant

Re: Hanging up the leathers eek
Well, I'm 58 next April and plan to do more and more touring in future (though not on the Storm TBH). Still love blatting around on the Storm embarrassing younger riders on sports bikes.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

I'm with Stratman. I'll be 57 in March and although spending a day on the Storm is Ok (all those stops for petrol help), for touring across several days I'd have to think of something a bit more upright. At least on the bike, no-one knows I'm an old geezer.
Re: Hanging up the leathers eek
My mate suffers with the dreaded "arthritis"so gone are the sportsbikes and he is now the proud owner of a feet forward cruiser type bike with adapted clutch and brake levers....it's given him a new aspect to motorcycling. I can see myself in the not too distant future going down a similar road,or at least something a little easier on the old joints.I'm fortunate that i still love the firestorm, although my hips and knees tell me differently after a while. If you are at that point where you feel enough is enough....then fine ,but if i was you i'd sorn the bike for awhile and see how you feel about it come spring.
Best of luck with your decision chrisc

sorry to read your thread, mainly cos you say you have constant pain. have you tried a wide variety of solutions to the pain? some of these alternative ones can work i am told?.
i still find the storm dead comfortable but i am not that tall and have only just gone past the half century. upright bikes make my head wobble about too much when you get up to a decent speed!
good luck

My doc is not interested, i have wear in it. He basically said i would have to put up with it. Dont get me wrong i can manage a blat for an hour or two. Just uncomfortable.
As for a cruiser these are worse. I bought a kawasaki vulcan. That got all the wind in your face so you end up pushing into the wind giving you stree on the neck and shoulders. Also it aggravated my lower vack as your weight is on your elbow bone.. The Storm is better. Tbh i dont think my heart is in it anymore

Thanks for all your thoughts.
I have decided to take the bike off sale tilk the spribg. I may go to the chiropractor and get it xrayed and have costly treatment.
Amended as not to upset

Doubtless if the specialist is a "foreign sounding one" you will refuse treatment from the scrounger?Jetblack wrote:Thanks for all your thoughts.

Perhams i should change my name to a foreign sounding one. They have paid feck all in and take it all out. Ahove the EU up the proverbials!!!
I'm not p~~sed

Had some sympathy, now I don't.

Re: Hanging up the leathers eek
Anyway i never said anything about scroungers.
The difference is the specialist is here to earn money from the pot i have paid into. Paid very well too.
I am not looking for sympathy. I am not in the minority neither! Or am i?

Re: Hanging up the leathers eek
My vtr (which I bought in November ) has actually given me a new lease of biking life. Just done 250 miles over past two Saturdays and this is really the miles I needed to get the hang of her. She is absolutely gorgeous, the power delivery is insane and I feel just pleased to ride it. So after an hour you need a pit stop, but the riding position is perfect. Was tanking it down the A303 last Saturday notching three digits, with absolutely no windblast. I am 6 ft 1" . Having had the usual dull, and more expensive bikes in the past this bike is the perfect pick me up. If you not enjoying riding a vtr, then I don't think there is much else out there to get your juices going. I remember in 2001 eyeing up a new orange one, in motorcycle city. ( which i think were a batch of imports as they had kmh on the dash)I wish I had bought it as it would have saved me wasting time on 6 other bikes, which I never kept longer than 18 months! So my take is if you not enjoying the vtr, then perhaps try hang-gliding instead!

.........So far, so good, so what!

The O/H family are Eastern European, They have a few businesses, pay taxes and employ British citizens, they also invest in other local business
Lets also not forget that 'Specialist' will be paying a considerable amount of tax on his wage, which also goes into this 'pot' you have been paying into.
If the NHS is to much of a burden for you may I suggest you stop paying your money in its pot and emigrate to a country which has no national or state provided health service and go private.
