Green oil??

Post by seb421 »

Ermmmmm any one ever come across any green oil before?

this is what greeted me when i took bolt out to drain

it smelt and flet just like oil...

either its supposed to be green or guessing a head gasket has gone leaking coolant in.

Fingers crossed

Duckhams used to be green, IIRC?

Chuck some more in and check later.

Otherwise check out some new stuff and write a cheque.

If it was coolant there will be white scum in the engine, have a look inside the filler cap, there's a little indentation underneath and it will collect in there.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I reckon that is the colour of the oil fella. As Tony says Duckhams used to be green and I am sure there are other brands the same colour. Hang on Seb, you've had that bike long enough for you to have filled it in the first place. What colour was it when you put it in?

Ahhh makes sense now. As Tony said have a look for the emulsion around the filler, in the level window etc, but looking at it I reckon you're safe.

Looks like Hypoid 90, back axle oil. Can't imagine any oil would stay that colour after the engines been run. Duckams came out black. What about Castrol R. ? used it years ago but I don't think anybody could afford it now.

Honda's don't run well on Castrol R. I ran it in a tuned CB125S a few years ago; it smelt great but engine wear wasn't good.

But after all, it's a single grade oil, not designed for the revs and temps of a Japanese type engine.

It works ok in old British singles built between the wars, when engines were much heavier, beefier but under lower stress due to low revs.

Although a few drop in the petrol gives you the smell but no problems at all, so I might just add a bit next meetup- Wales?- to give you lot trying to keep up something nice to sniff.
