Body Work Repair Help

Post by seb421 »

What to use to repair tank?

have a small dent on the left shoulder of the tank from a coming together with a curb a few year back

just about to order my viynl to wrap it and have found some good videos of wrapping bike tanks

what can i use to fix the dent / fill it out

ive never done anything like this, and would like to get it right first time, do i just buy some body filler and sand paper?

Wish my old man was a hands on man and could have taught me this stuff as a child

if your wrapping it then you could just fill it and sand it job done, it dont have to look pretty just smooth so it dont show through the vinyl.

Will i need to sand down and prime the tank dent area for the filler to stick?

Sorry if that's a dumb question I never used the stuff

will i have to put a primer over the top of the sanded filler to seal it too?

Get the dent as small as possible (see above as if your lucky you may be able to completely pop the dent out) - get it down to metal, slap in some P38 filler, sand down with wet & dry & sanding block, prime. Job ready for vinyl.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
