12v DC Terminal For Satnav
12v DC Terminal For Satnav
I'm going to wire up a satnav. Where is the best place to wire it to? A lot of bikes have a specific point designed for this, does the VTR?

4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul...........
Re: 12v DC Terminal For Satnav
you could go to eastern beaver and order a switchable power supply lead, and wire up to the battery then you will not have a 12volt connector live 24/7
got my upgraded relay kit for the headlight from there, very good price, v.good quality and service, plus the light wiring loom works great.

Prefer to do it myself. All bikes have a specific place you can wire to but the manuals seldom state where.

This should cover the principles of installing a distribution block / power relay for all your accessories.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

That's a great link. I have to wire some more accessory sockets into the TDM for camping in the Pyrenees this summer, so that will do nicely thanks!Wicky wrote:This should cover the principles of installing a distribution block / power relay for all your accessories.

Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Nice one!
Re: 12v DC Terminal For Satnav
Just type "12v waterproof socket" in ebay.
There's a few interesting ides there, one is a handlebar clamp design but I don't think there' enough room on a Storm.
Some come with a 1.5 metre lead and fuse.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I'm hoping to fit a cig lighter socket so I can plug anything into it like satnav, GPS, etc!
Re: 12v DC Terminal For Satnav
Yes, the advice above re ebay search will show you cig lighter sockets, just go for a marine waterproof one.
And make sure there's an in-line fuse.

Re: 12v DC Terminal For Satnav
You can wire the positive side via a fuse straight to the battery, but the neg can just go to the nearest frame point, where the fairing stay bolts to the frame at the headstock is good.
Saves weight.
Remember that you can then use the socket as a point to plug in a charger or battery conditioner, too.
Current flows both ways.
