been striping my bike a little giving her a good clean noticed my r/r is the old type without the fins although i dont think theres any problems with the bike but i am new to riding what sort of problems doe these cause?

They can burn out & then boil your battery R/R also known as a R/F or Rectum Fryer!

I ran with my original for about 4 years with no problems but decided I was tempting fate so changed it for a Yam R6/R1 item.

It's worth changing it just for the peace of mind, the cost of a replacement is peanuts compared to the cost of putting things right if it does go pop.

Others have changed them for the newer Honda item which is finned & is plug & play the Yam one's need to chop the connector off, but are a larger finned area so should dissipate more heat.
