mounting a sat nav

Post by FENNER »

Afternoon all

I'm looking at using my tomtom v4 sat nav on the storm as I don't want the expense of a bike specific one, my sense of direction is shocking considering I've done 30 to 40k a year for the last 25 years in my work vans  have any of you found a cheap water resistant case that mounts somewhere visible on the bike ? Also looking for hints on the wiring and a waterproof power socket to get.

Cheers Tony

I made one out of 1/8 ply with a plexy glass lid and stuck it to the top yoke with velcro.I put a lighter socket next to the clocks for power .Make sure you can use it without sound though.Painted it black and it looked so good that some one nicked it whilst filling up.

look on the RAM website, they have mounts and waterproof zip up cases.

for the powersupply, I have cig lighter charging plug under the seat and plugged into the optimate charger plug. This keeps it out of water, and also I dont have to cut any holes in the bodywork, and I just loop the charging lead under the tank from the side.

I can send a photo tonight of what I bought.

Page 16 of todays MCN.

£17.99 + p&p.

Obviously you'd still need to sort out power for it.

These are the bits I got from RAM. The stem mount, a short link arm, a holder for the eTrex gps, and a zip up waterproof holder for any car satnav, or smart phone.

I'm liking your set up AMCQ46, I'll have a look on the RAM site later. The Ridermount one looks good value as well that Jester666 has posted so I could probably adapt that somehow ?

the rider mount looks like the same case but with a different fitting screwed to the back. the main problem with that package, is it is designed to mount onto the bars, and with clip-ons you dont have any space to put it.......unless you have converted to superbike bars, in which case it is perfect
