swingarm pivot pin removal

Post by macphray »

Hi" i need to remove the right hand foot mount but notice that its held on with the swingarm pin .Now if i unbolt the pivot and remove the pin ,will that cause the backend to drop?or will it stay in place long enough for me to remove the footrest and replace the pin,.I have thought about using rachet straps to lift the bike but am not sure what part of the frames the strongest .has anyone done this ? any advise would be great.

Depends which side you're working on.
If it's the side with the nut end of the spindle, all will be fine.
If it's the bolt head end, then you'll need to support the rear, and fully withdraw the bolt.

The reason I haven't said "right" or "left" is because sometimes a person fits the pivot bolt the wrong way round.

For pivot removal:
Easiest is to use a wooden block between rear tyre and undertray, preferably on/near a bracing strut.

If you want to use straps, run them through the seat loops, they're strong enough.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

If you want to work on the side that would require you to fully take it out, you can always push through a similar size bar in the other side as your pushing it out, stopping it from dropping out completely

Push it out with the back wheel spindle, it's the same size. It'll hold everything in place.

Alternatively, if you're still buying the footrest assy and RH side fairing, I can send you up a spare swingarm pivot bolt, just end it back once you're done with it.
