One of my tail lights is not working.........thought it was just the bulb (both brake lights work fine).
Bought and fitted new bulb and still it doesn't work
I confess to being not very "switched on "electrically - does anyone out there have some tips on finding the possible cause please?
check the wires & connectors obviously... but its more likely to be a corroded socket / solder joint.
see if any of the solder joints look green (corroded copper wire) or whitey grey (corroded soder)
it's possibly just salt damage.
might be worth scratching it up clean with a bit of wire wool / sandpaper.
*make sure its turned off it you use wire wool or you could start a fire lol!
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Swap bulbs one side to the other.
If the fault also moves, it's a bulb problem, if not it's a holder or wire problem.
Try the old bulb you thought was faulty in the known good side.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Just back online - thanks for the replies.
I swapped bulbs which confirmed the problem is not the bulb. The wires in the connector look a bit green/corroded so this may be the problem. I'll have a look during the week.
I've found the cause but not the solution - there are 3 wires on a connector which is pushed onto the bulb holder.
The bulb holder should have 3 metal tabs onto which the connector locates. On mine, the middle tab has gone AWOL so only 2 out of the 3 wires are connected.
Looks like I will have to get a new bulb holder unless there are any better solutions? Here is a photo of the connector and bulb holder (minus the middle tab)....
Hope the photo makes sense.
