Rectifier or Alternator? Help!

Post by Image »

Battery isn't recharging. Battery is only 3 months old. Headlight dims slightly when bike is revved (surely it should go brighter when revved). Is this likely to be the alternator or the rectifier?

Oh, yes.
Definitely one of those two, or the wiring coming from/going to them.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Impossible to say, until you meter them out or replace one or t'other.

Suggest you disconnect the connectors from both, then see if it's any better; reconnect one at a time to see if you can isolate the fault.

If it's the rr, it could have killed the battery, too- they don't like 40 volts up 'em.....

have a look in the workshop section, as several people have had probs with these lately, and ealrn for their experience.
