Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
Doing the stopper mod on front cylinder, went to refit CCT and noticed the plunger head wasnt on it.
Can't see it anywhere, the chain guide has a wear mark from one being there so it must of had one.
Is it possible the plunger head was knocked off when I removed the CCT and fell inside the engine?

Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
No, no need to worry.
There's no room for it to get past the chain.
The explanation is that the monkey who changed the CCT last time didn't realise that you have to swap the end cap over when you replace them.
But put one on before you reassemble.

Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
Yes, but as Tony says, you just have to remove the metal cap from the old ones and put them on the new CCT's. It just that not everyone realises that.toecutter wrote:Thats a relief cheers!

If you need to buy new David Silver are listing them (£7.74 for two inc vat and del.):-

Chris.
**EDIT** Here's the correct part number for the metal cap:- 14524-MBB-000
For some reason or another the link I placed for them is not correct, it has changed. This is not the first time I've noticed this happen.
Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
Ask Bazza; he removes them from old cct's and throws them away, he'll probably let you have some free.

When you say plunger head do you mean like the black bit on this pic?toecutter wrote:Doing the stopper mod on front cylinder, went to refit CCT and noticed the plunger head wasnt on it.

I think most of the replys are talking about the the end cap that goes on the left.

Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
New Automatic cam chain tensioners come with a plunger head. The ones I got from David Silvers did anyway.
Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
I think we are talking about a steel domed cover that clips onto the black plastic plunger end on so it is NOT on the picture shown above

Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
This is news to me. What is the purpose of this cap. Neither the original CCTs or the ones I replaced them with had this cap i.e they were the same as the ones pictured. Is there any harm in this?
Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
It's there to stop the rubber plunger head from splitting,Steve6088 wrote:This is news to me. What is the purpose of this cap. Neither the original CCTs or the ones I replaced them with had this cap i.e they were the same as the ones pictured. Is there any harm in this?

Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
Absolutely correct, it's the protective cover for the rubber section that we're talking about.AMCQ46 wrote:I think we are talking about a steel domed cover that clips onto the black plastic plunger end on so it is NOT on the picture shown above
It also allows the tensioner blade to slide smoothly over the end of the tensioner as it moves under normal standard tensioning.

Re: Plunger head from CCT fallen inside engine?
Yeah cover for plunger head.
Ordered yesterday from DS, only £2 or so and needed a couple other bits anyway.
The rear cylinder had one on, just glad I don't have an excuse to pull the engine to bits
