1st Firestorm new owner in South Yorkshire

Post by Porkpie »

Hello all, Neil here in sunny Rotherham.

Struck a deal on Saturday on a black 97 Storm and it’s a beauty, 1 previous owner 14k new MOT and scorpion carbon cans (baffles in but still sounds bloody good) & originals, handbooks, old MOTs and a good amount of history. It needs some new fluids and tyres but other than that it seems just run in. I’m new to the Firestorm but really excited about picking it up in 2 weeks.

I’ve not had a big twin before but done many many tens of thousands of miles on Honda VFRs & a Blackbird. I have concours 11k 97 VFR750 in the shed that I’m keeping for high days & holidays – sunny bimbles with the mrs on the back etc. I spent many hours getting the VFR right so got the Storm for me to put some miles on and enjoy without fretting about racking up miles on a museum piece.

I’ve had quite a few bikes over the years but can’t remember having been this excited about one. I’ll be racking up some miles on the storm so will be in here to find out maintenance tips etc.

Welcome - I've had mine for 12 years now. Still makes me grin, especially the soundtrack!
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

welcome to the club mate,

trouble is that if you just got a low milage clean Storm to add to the clean VFR, you might just have 2 museum bikes in the shed that you dont want to get dirty! perhaps you should have got a rough looking one then you wouldnt feel bad about the salt

Any suggestions for tyres? I'm getting that a big twin might suit some rubbers better than others with big he power pulses.

Seen some Michelin Pilot Power at a good price at FWR with free delivery...

hi porkpie , I've always used Dunlops, never let me down yet get good feel for grip but tend to wear faster than i'd like but reckon i'd say that whatever tyre i used !
