Electrical problem
Electrical problem
Please can anyone help, I have a 2001 storm. My problem is- the rear light, side light and clock lights don't work, all other lights and warning, info lights do, as does horn, indicators, brake lights, recently replaced the regulator and battery. I'm losing my mind, 5 hours Sunday to no avail!!!!
always ridden 4's, never again!!
Re: Electrical problem
Checked fuses?
In a little box by the battery.
If not, check for a failed tail light bulb.
If not that, take off the clocks and check the earths on the rear are connected soundly.

Re: Electrical problem
Hello tony, thanks for the reply,
Checked all fuses, and bulbs, all loom wires concerned bell out. I was talking to a mechanic today, and as you say I will verify all earths this weekend. I'm at the end of my tether, bought the bike 6 years ago with 2800 miles, it now shows 72000, all by me, mostly abroad, including the ring! Really attached to it, still runs likea dream, sturdy old horse! :-)))

Will be available to call after 12 tomorrow.
Would be eternally grateful if you could help.

Re: Electrical problem
Tried to call you a couple of times on that moby, no reply.
Yes, I can help, but I charge a cheapy mates-rate for working on Storms,
equates to £20/hour roughly.
£50 for a 1/2 day job, £100 for an all-day job sort of thing.
I could certainly drop over and have a look, probably it'll be fairly easy to track and sort, couple hours tops I would have thought.
Sorry if you were expecting a freebie, I do hold workshop days where I support owners to work on their own bikes and make no charge.
I probably sound pretty mercenary, but am expecting to be out of my day job in three weeks, so need to cover the mortgage one way or another....
And i do know Storms pretty well, and have spares for most things sitting around if needed.
But your problem sounds like a failed or shorted lead or earth, just needs metering through, finding the fault and fixing.
The advantage with using someone like me rather than a main dealer, is threefold:
One; I know lots about Storms, and don't need to know a bit about the whole model range,
Two, I have spares to try a swap with- spare clocks, for instance, and
Three- chances are that I've seen the problem before, and will find it quicker than someone going down the universal diagnostic route.
D'you want a hand?
