tickover issue

Post by FENNER »

afternoon all

I did a couple of hundred miles over the weekend, and the storm don't seem to be ticking over how it used to ? It seems to be "hunting" slightly and the revs are fluctuating a bit, also had 3 occasions where it just cut out while sat ticking over at junctions. It fired straight up again though and runs fine otherwise ? It pulls like the proverbial train. It's had recent plugs, oil and filter ect. I wondered if the carbs wanted balancing ?

Also is it just mine or do these engines need a good warm up before they tick over sweetly ?

Cheers Tony

are you sure the plug caps are on properly?
its easy to push them down at an angle and theyre just touching the plug top rather than clamping onto it.

and carb balance should be on your list as well. easy to do.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Hi benny hedges

I'll check the plug caps later just in case, if the carbs were out of balance would it cause the erratic tickover ? I've never balanced carbs but I've just had a look at the instructions on here and it looks ok, I managed the cct's so I should be able to get my head round it.

Looks like I better get on ebay and get a balance kit then, is the ball in tube style the best bet ?

up to u bud. i got the dial type with damping tees.
dont forget the m5 adapter for the front hose, and some tubing.

if you cant find m5 adapters u can use the brass fitting that screws the adapter in a pushbike pump cos its same thread ;)

Cheers I'll get the gear together over the next few days and have a crack at it the weekend.
