Not so much ran out, but realised I'd got a spare can of the Hammerite smooth gold, so I thought I'd see how that would look. I sprayed the fork bottom gold a few years ago and have just redone them - think they look good like that so I'll see how the gold wheel takes me

ive never used spray paint but fingers crossed it should go well, going to have to get some paint on payday

how long should you leave the paint between coats of paint and coats of clear lacquer and how long do you let it cure for before getting tyres put on and using them again?

those little tins you get from small motor factors are awesome.

i acid etch any bare ally and leave it a week or so then i use ford graphite grey metallic for the engine cases and wheels. laquered up too.

Wouldn't leave it that long as etch primer is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air so don't spray on a damp day or leave outside for any length of time ). You can overspray within a couple of hours or quicker if you wave a hair dryer over it/leave in sun.

i only said a week since it would take me all bloody weekend to remove the old paint

The thing with wheels is - you get 99.9% looking really good, then there is a little run or blemish, so you think "I'll just rub that out" and re-lacquer - only to find that you then have to cut down the overspray etc.......

Still, easier than I thought even if I have been as high as a kite for three days on the fumes

If I was half sensible I might have. As I'm not I didn't Though tbh a coat on a wheel takes only a couple of minutes, so not long to breathe in the fumes. I was thinking of buying a gas mask but this might be the wrong forum now I come to think about it.
