Post by Porkpie »

The storm is taxed but its at home in the drawer, where do you mount yours and what holder do you use?

Nowhere, it's unsightly and adds unnecessary weight. I've just filed it away and never had a problem cept once when MOT folk made the 'wrong' number plate and police couldn't ID the bike. Instead they used the frame no. and the vehicles documentation came up as okay and be on your way with a suggestion to at least carry a photocopy of the tax disk.

Probably handy for traffic wardens without mobile access to databases to spot untaxed vehicles.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

thats what i got cautioned for.
ive always done that, since getting one nicked and destroying another at the jetwash.
only thing is, id left my wallet at home and just put my fuel card in my fone wallet so didnt have it on me.

plod said he wont accept the excuse of 'they get stolen' cos its free to replace..... the 2 times ive got a replacement it cost me a fiver :confused

depends on the plod.
as i said in the other post, there were other indiscretions like 30 over, small plate, cans etc so i wasnt going to make an issue of getting a caution....

your call really.... if you get an butt plod or you do something to piss them off they will do you for not displaying... or displaying in the wrong place on the bike.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

i know its supposed to be on the left but it leans into the floor on the left so just seemed natural to have it on the right where it can be seen, if its parked i will park it so it leans towards a wall etc

I found this quote below from this link:-
http://www.motorlawyers.co.uk/offences/vehicle_tax.htm

Quote
I am a motorcyclist and I am worried about my tax disc being stolen. I display a photocopy and keep the original in my wallet in case I am stopped. Is this OK?
No. Firstly, you are not allowed to take copies of a tax disc and to display it and secondly, the law states that you must have a valid tax disc displayed towards the front of your vehicle. Although theft of a tax disc is a common problem, the obligation is upon the vehicle user to secure the tax disc, rather than display a copy.

same. was thinking of one of these a while back but was never sure if legal, and they're a bit pricey.

The only time I have ever had any trouble about the disc not being on the bike, I was pulled up next to a plod car at the lights. He pointed to the empty holder, I pointed to my jacket pocket and he gave me a thumbs up.

When I got home I couldn't remember if the bike was taxed, it wasn't! :eek2

Just sit further back.

According to an article I read recently, in Superbike mag I think, about prepping your bike for an MOT.

Tax disc should be mounted on the left & forward of the seat.

Mine is on attached to the sub frame by the bolt that secures the seat plastics & is one of those metal hex shaped ones with 8(?) little bolts. Fiddly to replace tax disc but fairly secure & waterproof.

All of which reminds me got the reminder sitting on the desk!!

why does it have to be forward of the seat? its not a long walk round a motorbike is it?
