mirrors, glass removal

is it possible to remove the glass from the mirror, without breaking it, and then putting it back in after a bit of tinkering with the mirror????

Are you trying to etch a self portrait on it just to remind you how fabulous you are?

I would also like to know about this as well as one of my mirrors is shagged but I'd rather just replace the glass.

i'm just rubbing them down and priming them, getting them ready for a bit of carbon treatment

first i'm going to vinyl carbon wrap them, if i can get that looking spot on, i will be giving the 4 or 5 coats of clear laquer which gives it that deep shiny look, well thats the plan anyways.
i've got one prepped and primed, one to go, it would just be an easier and neater job if the glass was out, but they look pretty solid so i'm doubting the glass will come out

When I worked at British Bakeries the guy who did all the repairs to the fleet of trucks & there were a lot of repairs, our Eastern European freinds driving for agencies! They used a heat gun to warm up the plastic mirror shrouds to pop in new mirrors.

Might be worth giving it a try to get it out but I would be very careful with any heat putting it back in as it would probably muller your new & shiny wrapper.

Possibly not as helpful as all that of Grain.

are you carbon wraping your whole bike ?? i would like to do the side fairings but looks too dificult ! ive done the top of the fairings to cover a chemical burn and it looks great!

nah mate the whole bike would be difficult to say the least, the more i practice the better i get, i'm really chuffed with the headlight surround i've done, and spraying it with clear laquer gives it that deep shine and smooth look.
i tried to wrap a spare crash helmet but it didn't turn out to well, its to do with the shape and making sure you don't pull it in the wrong direction. i also did my other mirror tonight, the biggest problem i have is with creases over tight corners, i tried heat but that doesn't work.....grrrrrr!

that should be easy enough mate, i bought a scalpel from my local diy store to do the cutting, its helps alot........
