Sticking Throttle....

Hu guys, I've replaced the bars and they are now slightly higher and closer to the tank. This initially caused the throttle to stay open and I assumed was becasue the cables were being bent at odd angles and stretched more than normal. I thus rerouted the cables so as not passing through the forks, now they have plenty of slack etc... but the throttle is still sticking. I think it is the cable so I'm wondering is there an easy way to lubricate without taking the cables out? So far i have tried pouring a thin oil into the top of the assembly but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Suggestions welcome before I take it to bits over the easter weekend.

Mine used to stick when I put renthals bars on . The return cable was at fault so I just removed it and found a better route for the pull cable . But the pull cable has to move freely or you might find yourself in a hedge .
Is the clipon bent ?

try a squirt of wd40 under the grip? it worked on my bike when the throttle wasn't returning very well.

Had the same problem on kiddas bike the other week..... The bar was rusted under the throttle tube and very gritty.
Cleaned and greased it but it was still sticking a bit cos of his bling bar ends.
Fitted a nut under the screw to space the bar end off a bit and its ok now.

If the cables need lubing, take them off at the throttle end and tape a food bag with some oil in over the outer cable, then fiddler the inner cable in and out to work some oil down inside.
Rinse and repeat.

Also check that the handlebar rubber grip is not touching the throttle housing, as that will give the same symptoms,

Thanks guys I'll check all and see what happens.
The new bars are Gilles vario bars with cnc grips by pro-sport. I'll be seriously pissed if I can't get them to work!

You might also get the problem if you have adjusted the cables to take out the lash. They need a little bit of slack to work properly, too tight and it will stick slightly.

Lastly make sure that your routing under the airbox hasn't trapped a cable or part of the linkage against a breather or other pipe.

Yep now working great , Id of just carried on until I met benny

its made a big diffrence in the riding no more close calls
