MANUAL CCT FITTING

Post by Damo81 »

MANUAL CCT FITTING............ok im getting really confused with this as im seeing several ways to which these can be fitted? one where the head etc is removed and when fitting the ccts the chains are being checked by feel ....another with all this timing positioning of the engine with the head off and others etc....and another where you dont need to take the head off and replace the ccts by adjusting the manuals to the length of the autos when took out, then fitting them to the enigine and adjusting the manuals untill the cam chain noise goes when running the engine?????? which is right? :Beer Popcorn:

if i was paying attention correctly at the weekend you take the head of the rear cylinder cos its easy. get it set up right for that visually. then because access to the front cylinder is difficult but everything is in the right place from the doing the rear you can do the front by feel ,ie fingertight then back off half a turn. but hey im no mechanic. i would pm one of the guys who has actually done it rather than just watched (like me).

cheers and good luck

m8 u need to read and understand the guide to fitting in the workshop section.

you remove the rear cam cover not the head.

to feel the tension, dont do them fingertight. all you need to do is wind the bolt in until you feel it touch the guide
you can take off the rear camchain top guide (put tissue down the camchain tunnel in case u drop the side bolt lol)
with the top guide off, wind the tensioner bolt in and you will see it taking up the slack in the chain. that's enough.
all you need to do is just feel the slightest tension on the adjuster bolt.

be very carefull if you are trying to adjust them with the motor runing - they can unwind themselves wery quickly lol - quicker than you think, and its very hard to lock them up (esp the front) when the engine is hot!

whereabouts are you based, cos if you have doubts on how to do this, someone nearby will be happy to help, but really, its an easy job if you follow the guide 100%
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

It's so simple, just need to take the rear cam cover off and make sure the marks are in the correct position. I had the body work off the bike when I did mine and it took 20 minutes, the hardest part was getting the air box back on.

Just follow the guide in the workshop section

That's why I smear silicon on the thread with the bolt fully retracted and then wind them in. The silicon on the threads acts as a brake, and they won't then move by themselves. Obviously, the locknut still needs to be very tight once set!
Re locking the front one up going in from the side- I recommend Bazza conversions for exactly that reason, they stand tall enough to be seen and accessed over the coolant pipe.

But best tip- never undo a locknut unless you have a ring spanner on the adjust dome (top) nut.

If you can get down to mine in Colchester on a Saturday we can do them.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

That's thoughtful, isn't it. He goes out on his bike on a Saturday and leaves his partner at home having it off.
