Unfortunatly not on mine mate. It looks like the pipes that come out my new cans will fit straight on  with a bit of jiggery pokery to the downpipes, which will totally eliminate the OM midpipes.

On my Microns the pipes have a mounting plate and hole for mounting of the front footpeg area. If I want somthing on my new pipes that will be a challenge for someone. It would require TIG welding to the Titaniun. Doh

SP1 style exhausts

Post by lloydie »

Image I did make them a little shorter in lenght to make them go that high .
But to make the look work you need longer exhaust cans

Just found this one
Just my opinion ( and of course its always right  ) I much prefer that to high levels.
Each to their own however.

What hangers are they, or what Bike are they originally meant for?? Guessing they're for something else, otherwise they'd be lower.

Iv'e seen them but that's all I can find, they don't look very solid. I was thinking use SP1 hangers but the mounting hole from centre to centre is differnt which is a pain. :(

I'm gonna start searching off fleabay as vtr 1000 hanger selection is shite. They don't look the same as on your bike Lloydi :? What I think I may end up doing is to get some cnc'ed made up.

I changed the hangers (ebay)and rotated the cans and links to the angle I wanted
ive tried this before when i had the blueflames and it leaked badly from the manifold joint with the angle, it was blowing and letting air in on the over run popping way to much

how is it for you? might have just been the sh1t blue flame link pipes i don't know.

i do like those hangers mate, got a link for me?

growing tired of the high-level look now and wanting to go back to the normal type set up

I don't use the mounting points on the foot rests and even with the race cans with separate link pipes there is no problem with the robustness of the exhaust mounted only by the end can.

Cheers Jazz I saw those! I shall keep them in mind, but I need to take more accurate measurements first. I do think they are gonna be a bit long though as they are designed for storm cans.

That's good to know, I won't worry too much about it then. Especially being titanium.

Called Flowtech today, told them roughly what I'm after. Seemed that it wouldn't be a problem. Now, next step is to either get new hangers made, or make them myself??
Where can I get the materials, or is it too complicated to do myself ?

It works perfectly well with just can hangers as long as the strap is at or near the mid-point of the sleeve.
Often you see the strap mounted far too far forward, so the end of the cans moves around too much.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I would be very interested to see what Flowtech do for you. I have been having nightmares with that end of things!

Hangers are the next problem. SP hangers won't fit as the diameter of mounting bolts are different. There's these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170523419608? ... 1423.l2649 which I think will fit, but then is the bottom mount for the can going to in the right place relative to the can strap.

After many hours/days of searching the Internet to find somthing ready made, I decided to go down the custom route, and made a template as follows:

Then it's off to find someone who can make them and what material to use. I decided Stainless steel, but what type! So back to Google I go. Done some research and decided the 316 (marine) grade is the one to go with http://www.intamet.co.uk/stainless-steel-guide.html Then there is the finish, Flatt, Brushed or Mirror finish and the thickness that is required to withstand the stress's and strains.

Found a metelworkers who did not have the steel and could only buy in large sheets. Decided to buy the metal myself to keep costs down. Back to Google for more research :wtf: 8O ££££££ wombles http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... eel+sheets Not Cheap!

Somehow I have managed to find a backstreet under the arches style welders/metalworkers that can do the job for about 50-60 quid and that's including the metal, he's supplying :o I have decided to go with 3mm Stainless steel, which happens to be the same thickness as the metal on my Micron bracket that attaches to front peg.

Got to wait to Tuesday now :( I shall see how it all works out then

Let us know how you get on with Flowtwch, what they do for you, prices etc please.

Have Fun

Argh thats stunted me as my straps will be off centre towards the rear. I have no option there, as I want the straps to cover the previous strap marks that wont polish out.
I might have to think of a way of adapting something to fit the front peg mount. [scratching head]

This day is going like a rollacoaster for me

Rearwards of centre is ok, not right at the back, though.
You can't support the weight of the can form too far forward is all; it'll wiggle around which is likely to disturb the seal where the link pipe joins the can, or joins the system.
It needs to be mounted fairly rigidly, albeit on a rubber strap.

If you can grab the (careful, it's hot) can outlet and wiggle it around you'll be able to see the effect this has on those joints.
This happens every time you go over a bump.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

How did you get on at Flowtech Lee?
told them roughly what I'm after. Seemed that it wouldn't be a problem.
What have you asked them for, are they gonna make you some link pipes?

I found this place today while surfing http://gibsonexhausts.co.uk/page_1.php?pgenme= they are in Romford and looks like they are very bike orientated. Might pop across and check them out over the weekend. I'm looking at having a small 4 to 6 inch S bend pipe to accomodate my link to header outlet. I may have to chop some of the header pipe away as wel!

Have Fun

Told them I needed a slight bend put in a 50-ish mm exhaust pipe. Bloke seemed to think it wasn't a problem, and said take the part down for them to see. Thats all I know at the moment. Not getting new link pipes made, I cant see it being more difficult to put about 15 degrees extra bend in the existing ones than making new from scratch. And I want to keep the footrest mounts to. Then its make ( or buy, if poss ) some new hangers.
Where are you anyway, would be interested to see what gibson say myself. Guessing you're local.

I'm not that close, over the other side of London but on a bke anywhere M25 borders is cool. It reminds me of my despatch riding days  I'm going to give them a call tomorrow see what they say and probably pop over there the weekend. That's if it's not wombles raining. :( I shall keep you informed and let you know how I get on.

Got my hangers made 3mm stainless steel, just picked them up today, £40 it cost me. I ended up taking the new exhaust down with me and some tools, took the Microns off and put the new ones in place with the hangers removed and string holding them in place. The guy then bent them to shape so they are at the right height and width away from subframe, I shall post pics shortly.

Have Fun
