Hey guys
I bought the tapered bearing kit from Wemoto.com, kit COL001 HCH-903R
I had the front off the bike to get the bottom bearing (Took ages grinding the old one off) eventually knocked the new (Tapered) one on, all greased up.
Then went to do the top and it looked like the rollers didnt run in the 'shamfered part' of the headstock?
So i thought Bast$$d! theyve sent the wrong one...... So i then fitted the old top bearing back in leaving the bottom roller bearing in place. Tightened it all down but cant seem to get all the play out!!! Each time i tighten the large 'notched' nut up to what i think feels right, test drive it, then feels lose again???
I can certainly feel the play in it whilst riding!
Is the top roller bearing i have definatly the right/wrong part? Its got 32005x26 stamped on it
Bottom roller bearing is stamped 32006JR
Also, the play im feeling now, is it simply a case of tightening the large 'notched' nut up?
Feeling deflated now after all that work and still not right
Scott

Scott, What do you mean exactlyscott02464 wrote: Then went to do the top and it looked like the rollers didnt run in the 'shamfered part' of the headstock?

My advice would be to get the correct parts, the main reason being taper rollers are much better (loads more contact area) and last longer. The old bearings (the standard ball bearing type), especially the top ones are what normally wear out (go all notchy) first.
Seeing as you've not fitted the top taper roller bearing now, you should be able to see with your eye if it's not as it should be by fitting it together.

Are you positive that the outer race in the lower position in the headstock was fully seated against its stop?
Otherwise every time you go over a bump it will "settle" a bit more.
Tricky to check, but a thin pointed piece of wire with a 90 degree bend in it can be poked in form underneath to feel for a gap.
Best bet is to drive it home using the old bearing with a tiny bit ground off the outer all round so that it slips in and out (oooer, mrs etc).
There should, by the way, be two adjuster rings (with square cutouts in) locked together by a tab washer between them.
Two tab washer tabs go up, and two go down to lock them together.
If you tighten but not overtighten these two against each other you can merely tap them round using a small drift (or, if you're a heathen, an old screwdriver).
You really need two c spanners, not just the one in the Honda toolkit.
They won't move once set because the top chromed nut pulls the top headstock yoke onto them, holding them in place.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
