Styler's yellow bike won't run (Fixed) (Not quite) YESSSS.

Post by Styler4077 »

Hi all, need some help now.
Engine run's and start on choke
Engine run's when warm
Engine revs when the throttle is opened gently.

At last weeks workshop day Tony thought it might be diaphragm's
StormingHonda sent me his spare set and i fitted them today.

Same problem
Have a look at these two video's.

shows you my luck so far.. :( :( :( :(
here are the two videos.

Notice its only the rear carb valve that flutters and you can see flames out off. front does not move and does not backfire...

She starts and runs every time on my or StromingHonda's carb's. But listen to that "Kickback".

Now I need some help as I'm of to France on this bike on May 11th and so I only have 3 weekend and I'm away over one of these.
so I only have two weekend to fix this.

The bike was put away in November 2011 after I broke my pelvis and has been like this since I got it back out two weeks ago.
Full service just done inc spark plus and i swapped out the one in the engine for older one's before the service to see if I could clear this problem, and the Carb's have been changed (Thanks StormingHonda)
Interestingly Yeti have a similar problem and he had his carb's ultrasonic cleaned and when he refitted them he still has the same problem.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers

Mmmm If it ain';t the carb - then fuel, fuel tank - hoses (breather?) vacuum (either rear or front take off) ??

Off to get some new fuel but it's not more than 8 weeks old.
The tank?
Vacuum must be working as fuel is getting to the carbs and it will tick over for ever.
There are 5 pipes on the tank.
Vacuum pipe from rear cylinder to operate the petrol tap valve.
Two big pipes to each carb. Main supply I think?
One small pipe that petrol runs out of when I lift the tank with 10liters in it, don't know what this does
One medium pipe ????
I'll go back and check all the hose and see if I've got a leak or a split

Cheers

Ok it now runs 8O
Don't know why?
Removed StormingHonda's carb's back to my setup and did the whole check list as suggested by Wicky.
New fuel, blow out all the pipes, check all the pipes.
Started it, let it warm up till the fan came on.
Now it rev's no problem ?????
The same fuel is being used in the BMW and the HD along with the garden tractor, as I brought a load during the non strike panic buying spree before Easter. :D
So it was either the fuel or crap in some lines, or some thing cleared after I pushed air back into the tank???

Thanks Wicky

A big thanks to StormingHonda for providing the spare carbs which saved you stripping your own one's and ruled them out as a possible fault. Glad it sorted itself a bit like LumpyV's Storm in Ipswich which went out of tune then righted itself somehow... most odd.

Result, well done.

All you can do with a problem like this is rule things out; as Sherlock Holmes said, "once you rule out all other possibilities, whatever's left, no matter how improbable, must be the truth".
Or in this case, the culprit.

So if it ain't sparks, or a dodgy ECU, it's fuel or carbs.
If it ain't that, it might be valve timing, or low compression, or.........

The good thing in this case is that it started; it's more difficult if it won't fire up at all because any one of these things might be the problem.

That's why I generally have spares to swap over; it makes diagnostics easier.

But no carbs at the moment, so well done StormingHonda.

Styler, you can go pack your cossie and passport now!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

hi had a similar thing with my 3rd storm i picked up last week.was running ok when i collected it. after removing tank to repaint bike as somewhere in its past it had a shocking quality repaint. anyway yesterday rebuilt it and it would idle , popping and banging on the throttle then stalling, after searching on here for correct fuel tap locations and testing the vacumn on the tap this morning. funny thing was i couldnt get fuel out when i sucked and the pipe , it only let fuel out of tap when i blew down it , whether there was some sh*t stuck somewhere who knows but after refitting tank all is fine. never had this issue with my past 2 storms so who knows, all ill say is i know you feeling of relief when she fires up and alls well.

Not sure it's fixed just yet.
Will start and run but it's just not right....... :(
Occasional bang when you start to rev it.
Even when you start it first time it just does not catch or tick over on choke properly.
Anyone in my area come across and have a listen?

Cheers

Looking like the French trip is going to be done on the Beemer :(

My Harley and storm are both like that, the storms got K&N and the Harley got a complete stage one tune along with pipes.

My Harley pops on overrun ( no leaks anywhere checked ), but doesnt bang.

It's a mechanical noise (bang) def not a over run pop or bang from the exhaust.
It's from the front cylinder area maybe the front cylinder or the area of the starter motor.
I have it in my head that the cam chain had jumped one tooth, not something I think can happen as I've had the manual CCT's fitted.
I'll do a compression test if i can and I'll also see if others can have a look at it when it's running....
