Engine flush

Post by Snoogle »

I'm going to be doing an oil change before I get the old girl properly back on the road so thought I better ask the question before I just go ahead and do it...

Is there any problem with using an engine flush (think I bought the STP stuff) before changing to new oil? I'm planning on doing it some time this week and didnt want to incase there would be a problem with the wet clutch or anything else etc

Advice please?! :confused

personally i wouldnt flush the engine on a bike with a wet clutch due to some of the additives which they use,and can possibly contaminate the clutch plates leading to bigger problems, thats just my 2pence worth other people may have different thoughts on this

I'd have to agree, you want to stay clear of flushing oils with a M/C motor.

If you're that worried, change the oil and filter run it for a week (as in use the bike for short trips, not just run the engine for a whole week) and then change the oil again, it'll be far kinder to the motor and have a similar outcome as modern oils have cleaners in them.

Never in my life have a cared what brand of oil I have shoved into a bike as long as its the same grade and viscocity I dont see why you would need to " flush " the engine.

Even laying a bike up, I dont use my harley for months, but its never given me problems with oil changes, same with the speed four didnt use it for 6 months and changed the oil, no problems.
