Push and pull...

Post by scott02464 »

Hey guys,

Why is there two cables for the throttle? as I understand it, one opens the throttle and the other shuts the throttle.... But why is there a 'return' cable if there is a spring to shut the throttle?

Cheers Scott

top cable opens the throttle .
bottom cable is a safety cable so you can close the throttle if it jams open 8O .
the big spring on the carbs is strong , i have removed the bottom (return cable )
and it snaps shut if i leg go of the throttle .
there is 3 advantages in removing the return cable .
1, makes it 1/4 turn to fully open
2, less resistance on the cables so it moves freer and smother .
3, snaps shut faster .
the only one down side
you can close it if it jams (mine has never jammed on any of my bikes but if it did just hit the kill switch.

Thanks mate, I thought it must be some kind of safey thing.

I've got an rc45 throttle on order, will there still be the advantages you mention with the second cable removed? Will it give me more slack to play with to get the larger throttle tube on?

just remove it and it will give you better adjustment .
and it will be easier to fit .
use some silicon spray on the clipon and bar .
and spray some down the cable wile your there .
i used and old clock bulb holder to plug the hole looks the part to
