I am replacing my clutch plates this weekend.
Is it worthwhile while fitting heavy duty clutch springs at the same time? Has anybody else done this?
The other question is do I require any special tools for removing the clutch plates. I have seen a clutch removal tool somewhere.
Many Thanks

Re: Clutch springs and clutch plates
for the clutch plates you dont need any special tools, only if you need to remove teh basket will you need a holder tool.
plan a new clutch gasket and new coolant, the water pump o-ring will be ok and the oil can stay in the engine if you do the work on the sidestand....good tip is to put a light film of grease on face of the joint, and blue hylomar on the other side, then the gasket will always release on the grease side and you can reuse it over again.
I have not used HD springs on mine and it works fine under all abuse conditions, its up to you if you dont want to go in there a 2nd time

Re: Clutch springs and clutch plates
HD springs are about 10% stiffer, but tbh you can't feel any difference at the lever.
While you're there, see if there are any wear marks on the spring centre column or the outside of the spring recesses, and let us know?

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Okay. Ill take a photo for you. Is this still your line of enquiry for the clutch grab issue? Mine does have this little habit.tony.mon wrote:HD springs are about 10% stiffer, but tbh you can't feel any difference at the lever.

Re: Clutch springs and clutch plates
Yup. It looks like this is the culprit, and I will fit some little sleeves over the central mounting posts in mine to prove it next time I have the clutch cover off.
