temp gage issue

Hi all
New to the forum and new to Firestorm's and recently returned to the joys of motorbikes.

I have posted on the welcome page that I have unfortunately bought a nail of a bike. Love the V twin tho!!!!

Recently replaced reg/rec and battery. Now experiencing temp gage either not moving upwards until 20 mins of hard riding and today experienced the temp gage in the red. Please advise what I should replace or do? Ebay awaits!!!!!

Does the fan kick in at all? I So the temp is rising and it's going into the red. If it does go to red, do not let it overheat, pull over and let it cool down. Is it a case of when moving at constant speed the temp is high but not red and when sitting in traffic it rises to the red?

The fan should kick in at around just above the half way mark on temp gauge, you would hear it at a standstill. These bike have one fan behind the right hand radiator, check the connection down there as it may be loose. Also while the engines not running have a feel around the fan area make sure it spins and there is no stones caught cowling the fan sits in.

Yep IMO your first port of call would be to check the fan is working.

Have you got a workshop manual. If not check out the stickies in the workshop section there's a download link there. That will help you loads

Get that sorted mate you don't want it overheating, the engine wont like that!

take the switch wire of the lhs radiator and touch it to the frame if you do the and the fan kicks in =the fan works .
but it sound like the temp sender to me but im not often right .
someone who knows what they are on about will be along soon

fans on the right hand side when sitting on the bike and Lloydy is right check the thermo switch as well.

To start with the simple things, I take it you have checked the coolant level

Actually I'd remove the fairing and check the coolant level first.
You can't tell just from the reservoir overflow tank.
