Necessaries really. An Oxford brute force ground with an Oxford HD chain to compliment the rear wheel locked up to a wrought iron downpipe. That should stop me waking up early hours convinced someone is stealing her.

Finally bought a replacement rectumfrier. A piper cross air filter and also the speedohealer I've been promising myself. Poor girl is getting unnecessary miles.

A gasket from my local dealer so I can get that ruddy weep hole fixed. A rubber and clip for the clip on weight.

Just don't tell the missus!

Fitted bling oil cap and clutch reservoir cap. Courtesy of Jonesey. I very big thank you!

Also fitted a shock spacer given to me by leevtr, also a huge thank you. Has made quite an improvement to the bikes handling. Was like Christmas had come early today :D

Also resprayed my forks black, as I made quite a shoddy job last time. Bike is pretty much ready for heading to Spain and France in 2 weeks time now.

If you like I will bring my security torx bits and multimeter to Grain. You may be able to play with the tps without removing carbs. :thumbup:

I want to have a play with my float level as I have a sneaky feeling this could be the cause of my over richness and worse than normal fuel consumption. Just got to work out how to adjust them. How do I bent the tab/slot where the float slides onto float valve? or is it a case of shimming it?

The more I strip and play with carbs the more I learn. :lol:

AFAIK you can't adjust float height; if it's wrong buy a replacement float.

They're a single plastic unit.
Adjustable ones usually have a brass tang which can be bent, but the plastic one just snaps.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

This is what was confusing me, I thought there was a way/hack you found for adjusting.
PLEASE NOTE- Storm floats are not adjustable, according to Haynes- you have to buy a new one if it's not set correctly

If the engine has a "wet" rhythmic, soggy area at full throttle / 3k-4k rpm, that gets worse as the engine heats up, lower the fuel level by resetting the float height 1mm greater (if the original was 13mm - go to 14mm). This will lower the fuel level, making full throttle / 2k-3k rpm leaner. If the engine is "dry" and flat between 2k to 3k rpm, raise the fuel level.
But if you say they are non adjustable, that's good enough for me. So I shall check/measure out of curiosity and if needs be swap them with the floats in my spare carbs. :thumbup:

my spare floats are pink(uk carbs)
Where as my eu carbs have yellowish floats in . When I get chance I will see if there is any difference in height .

Now that's interesting because I thought the colour of the floats were different between my 2 sets of carbs. I just thought one of them was discoloured more or a pattern part. I shall double check that tomorrow. :thumbup:

Not done anything on the bike today. Been over to BSM's and picked up his old adjustable needles. So tomorrow I'm stripping the carbs down again. Let the games and experimentations begin. :lol:

Carl, that quote was from a set of instructions about generically setting carbs up, not specifically VTR's.

So no, I don't think you can change float heights.

But-

I've had a think, and maybe you could get different length fuel level needles, the little viton-tipped fat plunger that actually fits onto the float tang and pushes up against the seat to stop the fuel flowing in.
If you fitted a slightly longer or shorter one, that would do the trick, wouldn't it?

No idea if you can get different lengths, perhaps anyone with other Honda carbs could pull some out and check?
Wouldn't surprise me though.

.25-.5mm plunger length difference would probably equate to 1-2mm fuel height difference, due the the leverage (distance from float pivot to contact point of plunger on the tang).

More fun and games!

So you have the same screen as I, and a 3mm spacer, same as I !! Such a shame it's not red, it would then be perfect. Still, at least it ain't blue :lol:

Unfortunately my skills with a spray can don't stretch as far as spraying my bike red. Ill have to stick with the colour I know and trust. I'd be willing to give it my best shot if it was blue though :lol:

Looks good. Plenty of salt damage on mine, a bit of black paint would cover it up nicely :idea:

And as it's Yellow, anything black looks good :D

what primer, paint etc did you use Steve and are you happy with the result?
