Ultrasonic Cleaner

I just bought one from Maplin. 2L tank with heater etc made by a company called James and reduced until close of business tomorrow from £99 to £54. Just in case anyone else wants to take a punt at one.
I will have a go with it over the weekend and post up the results.

Seriously that's a tempting price, but no spare paypal money at present for presents (to me)

If you get one without a heater, you could always just use hot (not boiling) water as an initial fill.....

True enough Tony. I bought a few litres of cleaning fluid at the same time so we will see what occurs. Anything that stays still too long over the weekend will be getting the Ultrasonic treatment, cat's, Dogs, kid's, bit's of bikes.

That shall be interesting Kev, I'm looking forward to seeing the results. Are you gonna put the carbs in, clean out all the inner passageways?

If you happen to put any of the wife's jewellery in it, be careful it don't clean bits to the point of any stones coming loose/falling out. She'll have your guts for garters.

Ok chaps a few piccies of the results of using the James 8020 ultrasonic cleaner 2l model. I had a go on one of the steel brackets for the carbs. This was it prior to any treatment -



This is following 5 minutes immersion of the left end with the heater on -



The difference is noticeable. I didn't use any other cleaning methods in the interests of a fair assessment.
The following pics are of one carb having been cleaned and for comparison purposes the other carb with no cleaning. The pics actually don't show quite how much crap is on the untreated carb -







I think it's a useful tool and cleans crap from all the difficult to reach bits.

Well I'd say there is a definite improvement there, not as shiny as I thought it would be. Great for cleaning the more inaccessible area's though.

what about the adjustable coloured mixture screw that carls getting, are you gonna get one?

Not sure if I' gonna get them yet, I think may may be made for FCR's. I did read somewhere on the hawk site they fit the CV's but I'm not sure. I will have to work out the thread pitch and stuff and query it with the firm first.

What's going in the cleaner next then Kev. Do you know anyone with false teeth.

Already done the Mrs ring (fnarr, fnarr) and a couple of gold chains, next up is the other carb. I am still experimenting with the amount of sea clean liquid, heat and time so it may be that with more cleaning fluid and longer in the bath better results would be forthcoming. Anyway should keep me amused for a while!
