19ltr Tank Mod.

Post by leevtr »

Who's done it, and what di you have to do/change ?? Cant seem to find a definitive answer. Does the fuel tap from the 16l fit the 19l ??

I'll find out myself tomorrow, but i'm impatient

IIRC The fuel tap does not have to go on, it's just for convenience to switch fuel off. I don't think the tap gets connected to the tank like on the 16l. It just fitted inline. I'm not sure about the plumbing.

I may be wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

Don't forget to swap the fuel level sender unit over.

ive got the 19L on mine.

the 16 fuel tap wont fit. the 19L just has a fuel outlet with no tap.
there is only one fuel outlet (12mm pipe) so you will need a tee piece and some new fuel hose and clips.

you wont need the vacuum hose from the rear cylinder so either cap it off or use it for a scottoiler or something.

you need to use the fuel level switch off the 16L tank as the 19L one is different and wont work with your fuel light.

Just so I got this right.
the 16 fuel tap wont fit. the 19L just has a fuel outlet with no tap.
there is only one fuel outlet (12mm pipe) so you will need a tee piece and some new fuel hose and clips.
So the one outlet out the tank, so t piece needed to convert the existing fuel lines into 2 into 1. When taking the tank off, how does one stop the fuel pissing out of it? Is there some kind of tap that could be used on the single outlet pipe?
Vaccum, that's simple. Are the other two pipes required. The overflow and the other smaller one (not sure what connection is for) Is it an ambient air pressure (breather) pipe for the the fuel cap or something?

Chears Benny, starting to get my head round this one now

i just dont take the tank off until its nearly empty lol.

you could use some quick couplers or add an aftermarket fuel tap.

it was easy when i had the fuel pump on but i took it off .

yes you will need to tee the pipes together.
i used 12mm pipe instead of the original 10mm.

the 19l tank still has 2 breathers underneath but you can use the ones off the 16

I have a pair of the 8mm couplers fitted to mine.
The only problem is that they still need two hands to do up or undo, which leaves you needing a third hand to hold the tank up.
I know you can prop the tank, and I'm finding the knack of trying to connect/disconnect one-handed.

Reminds me of bra clip practise when I was younger!

I use a long 3/8 drive extension to hold the tank up. The same one I use when undoing the front tank mounting bolts to clear ratchet handle from crashing into dash/screen.

Why the 8mm Tony, I thought the fuel hoses were 10mm :confused

There's also these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270605206213? ... 1423.l2649

8mm flows plenty of fuel, and I got them cheaper, from a stall at Brands last time I went to the Thunderbikes.

Fit them with small hose clips to prevent leakage, and the pipe will close down to 8mm ok.

thats 8mm internal diameter i take it
13mm external diameter, thats what i've bought for my 19ltr tank conversion, braided of course
i just need to get one on/off valve to make taking the tank off not such an explosive experience so to speak

good luck with the 8mm id pipe...... you will find it starves the bike under hard accell - thats why i went for the bigger bore pipe and the problem went away.
