Engine dies after overtaking

I finally managed to make a longer trip with Storm.

Which was nice, but 200km's is a real pain for the butt...

Anyway, I noticed (actually this was second time when it happened) that when I overtake a car and accelerate rapidly (lets say 3-4 gear) up to 140km/h (roughly) and when returning back to my own lane the engine dies.

I tend to change two gears at once, so the revs of course drop, and acceleration drops of course. But the engine still shouldn't die because just releasing gas...

Luckily in the both cases the weather has been nice, and just releasing the clutch the engine will start. But this actually almost locks the tire and at the rainy weather this could get slippery.

Has anyone had similar problems?
(it could be the breather tube at carburetors, I haven't yet found if it is bended on its holder or not.)

I'm no expert by any means, but my first thought was air filter. Is it clean? Amazing how much crap gets sucked up.

Sounds to me like your carbs need a good clean and your tick over is to low .
When was it last serviced ?
And what was done ?

I agree, I had a similar problem with mine when I first got it. It soon went away after giving the bike a good high speed thrashing. Next time you fill up with fuel, put some of the higher octane stuff in as some of the more expensive fuels contains a cleaning additive. I tend to put the odd tank of higher octane stuff in every now and again to keep things clean.

Turn the tickover up to 1400 when hot, and get the carbs balanced.

That'll fix it.

Probably worth checking plugs, to make sure they're Iridium (tiny central electrode) and gaps are correct. Don't adjust if not; just replace with fresh ones.

The answer is: I don't have a clue.

I just got the bike and I don't even know the previous owner (the bike was imported to here with one dubious gentleman - legally thou). The engine seems to be ok, but there is quite a list of things to be done.

I really hope I don't need to get the carbs balanced before the autumn. So next week it is time to buy new air filter (they could actually just send my salary directly to the local bike part dealer and Louis.de). I also sometimes fill up with bit higher octane. Also new spark plugs are mandatory, I won't go to the iridiums thou. I am planning a long trip around the Europe and for that I prefer longer lasting plugs.

I probably should open a separate topic under "pimp my ride" or somewhere to keep up with everything I need to do

But for this problem: new air filter, new spark plugs, more octane and some serious driving. Check.

That sounds good to me to start with. You will be better off with a standard filter, don't go buying a K&N or something. If the bike has been sitting around for some time with old fuel in the system, things can get a bit clogged up. You may want to turn your idle speed up a tad as well. You can do that by turning the black knurled knob on the right hand side of the front carb. If you look through the triangular part of the frame just behind the rad, you will be able to see it.
