I don't understand why it is just a remove and refit with new ones job. Why do you have to remove the top cover and check alignement....?

Re: another about CCT
You have to set the timing to TDC so there is no tension on the chain. If you release the cct while it's under tension then there is a chance of the chain slipping some teeth and knocking the timing out.
Some links regarding the Cam Chain Tensioners (CCT's)
You can either go for the stop mod View Topic http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=19416 Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.
Or
You go for the full manual conversion, your options are here http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 16&t=22720

Re: another about CCT
Remove and refit only works on an inline 4 engine where there is enough cams at different points inthe cycle to oppose each other and prevent movement if the cam chain tension is released. The storm acts like 2 single cylinder engines, and the valve spring will push back on the cam lobe and cause it to rotate when the tensions released allowing it to jump a few teeth and change the valve timing.
The only safe place to release the chain tension is when neitheR exhaust or inlet cam is working the valve......TDC on the firing stroke......but if you don't lift the cam cover you can't tell if it is tdc on the firing stroke, or the intake stroke.
Hope that makes sence......come to the midlands workshop day and I will coach you through it. It's not that far from Burton on Trent to Solihull
