In a very out of character spur of the moment thing I recently bought a 2000 reg Storm. Also out of character I now have a large grin on my face.
I'd always fancied one, it was fairly cheap and the wife had gone away for a couple of days. It's in go faster red.
It has got a couple of peculiarities - which the last owner was very honest about-
1. Speedo comes and goes on occasions.
2. Neutral light works when cold but intermittent when hot.
I'm guessing these are either wiring or sensor related issues.
Nice to be in the club and thanks for the informative forum.
Cheers,
Jez

Re: Hello...
Welcome to the forum Jez, you have very good taste in bikes fella!
I haven't had any problems with instrument panels on mine but I know they have an issue with the earths behind the dials.
Theres another Storm coming down your way soon. VTRKidda has just sold his Castrol painted Storm to a guy from your neck of the woods.
Enjoy yourself mate

Re: Hello...
Hi.
Neutral light will be the connection at the switch, which is under your toes on the LH side.
You'll see two tiny wires going into two separate sensors, one has an oversized rubber boot going to it; that's oil pressure, and the rearmost one is the neutral switch. Check the connection is good.
If that's ok, check all of the connection plugs in the plastic boot just behind the tank when you take the seat off.
If that's ok and you still have the problem, then you need a replacement switch; it just unscrews.
But oil may come out; get someone to hold the bike at an angle leaning the other way and you won't ruin the patio.
Speedo light- the instruments have three small bulbs. If only one bulb is affected, unbolt the three mounting bolts and pull the cluster towards you; you'll be able to replace a bulb easily enough. If it affects the lights in the whole cluster it's a poor connection at the rear of the cluster, have a look and you'll eb able to see rust when the connections start to corrode; just clean and remake them all.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
