Tassie
Hi, Just bought a 2006 Firestorm in Sydney Australia. Rode it back to Tasmania, 1030 Klms in the middle of winter and no heated handgrips! The bike performed well and didn't miss a beat. The old 96 TRX is looking a bit neglected alongside it in the shed. Thought the info on this site looked good so I have signed up.

From his point of view, you probably are!
Good try, though.
And welcome!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: Tassie
Hi everybody, thanks for all the posts. In answer to "lumpyv" the roads in Tassie are made for motorbikes, some of the best rides in Australia if you like corners! Also some of the worst weather at times, although I did do a 2000Klm ride back in February in Victoria and it rained the whole way.

Goo' day day mate welcome to the forum.
Stick around here and you can't go wrong, plenty of advice and guidance and members willing to help out.
As it's not been mentioned yet there couple things you should prioritise with a new bike. Check the CCT's to see if they have been changed and check the regulator rectifier to see if it's a finned version.
CCT's can go at any time, it's a gamble!
You can either go for the stop mod View Topic http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=19416 Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.
Or
You go for the full manual conversion, your options are here http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 16&t=22720
Then with regards to fitting View Topic http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8326
To see if it has been done have a look at the CCT's on bike. Is there a thread coming out the end with a locknut. If so then manuals are installed.
Regulator rectifier you will find attached to the subframe just behind the tail panel on the right hand side near the battery.
Have fun and you can't beat a can of XXXX

Re: Tassie
Thanks cybercarl, I was aware of that problem the vtr is a 2006 model and has 9000Klms on it. I have looked into buying the aftermarket Krieger brand off EBAY in the US they seem to have good reviews. Thanks for the info.

Welcome aboard!
What's your idea of "the middle of winter"? Below 20c?

Re: Tassie
Hi Tankslappa it was minus 5 degrees c riding out of Canberra at 830am, the Firestorm was covered in ice and frost!! Stopped at a roadside rest area on the highway and a lady pulled up and gave me a cup of tea, said she felt sorry for me.
