VTR1000F Speedo Woes

Hi every one. I have purchased a 2005 VTR that was damaged and is missing the speedo (was munched so the old owner chucked it). The bike has done around 20,000 kms. I can get a speedo here in NZ from a wrecked no problems, but I will need to get the mileage reset at 20,000. Anybody had to do this? Any ideas on a cheap fix?? Thanks :confused
