Engine on tick over

Hi when my bikes is on tick over every now and again there's a slight knock its not perminant it seems to knock once or twice then stop for a few seconds then does it again, the bikes running fine etc but is this noise normal ?

It's my first v-twin so I'm still learning about them, any advice would be great.

If this is the airbox cough noise, then yes, it's normal.

Would it be worth me getting it checked to be safe ?

Thanks again for your help with the discs mate.

Not sure what it's set at all seems normal tho, it's not idling too high or anything it ticks over nicely but every maybe 4-5 seconds there's a slight knocking 1-2 times then goes again.

Have you balanced the carbs at all? If it's ticking over at around a grand bring it up some. Mine will do the cough thing when the carbs are out of sync as well. Worth a go mate.

other week mine developed a knock after the electrics got waterlogged

6 hours of drying every connector out with a hair dryer and leaving garage heater on all night and it was back to normal

mines been doing that ever since i got it. i started a thread called "random knock on idle" or something similar. i have decided to ignore it because the general consensus was that it was pretty normal. its really random on mine . it hadnt done it for about 6 weeks and yesterday it did it about half a dozen times!!

if i rev my bike in neutral to about 2.500/3000 revs, theres a slight knock and the revs drop briefly and then everythings normal again, i'm told this is an airbox cough as well, it freaked me out at first because i thought it was something more serious, its just part of owning a v-twin and i still love it.

As long as its normal I'm ok with it it's just when you hear a knock come from the engine the alarm bells started ringing but a few people seem to have the same thing.

Neither my engines has done this, the only time it does the proper 'cough / spit' back up the air box is when I'm on the breaks slowing down for lights and then its rare, more so with this 97 / 98 engine than my 2000 engine

the 2000 model engine used to have this thing where it would be ticking over then suddenly jerk / knock sound likes its dropped missed on one cylinder and drop revs for a heartbeat and then back to normal it was random when it did this often for weeks on end with nothing and then a few times in a day,

The replacement engine i fitted has never done this, strange init

Mine does it. Decided to ignore it. Glad other people have the same thing happening, obviously not a big deal.
