Hello all. Iv have been looking at this site for about a week now and finally got round to signing up. I live in Leicestershire and have seen a few VTR's around, any of you on here? I have owned a VTR for about 5 weeks now and I am loving it. Got it from a friend at work who had it for 6years. He then upgraded to a triumph t595 (which he has had nothing but problems with) :lol: She has Harris race cans and double bubble screen. I am looking at getting some stubby levers and a couple of other small bits and pieces, maybe some chrome bits see some on the bay :D I have just washed the old girl for your enjoyment....

Is that a standard CCT I spy with my beady eye?

I must have missed that bit... :roll: oh well. It's a big place so we could narrow it down a little..where abouts in Liecs do you come from.
Parents used to live in Melton and I know there are some great biking roads in the area.

I think you mean most common colour, certainly not the most popular!!! :lol: :lol:

Sorry to sound rather noobish but what's CCT?
Coalville is where in Leicestershire I am from and yes there are some cracking roads here :lol:

We had a visit up to the Vic pub at Coalville as a forum meetup and camping w/e a while back, I think there's been another one since as well.

Wouldn't be much of a rideout for you, though, more like taking Coalvilles to Newcastle.

CCT= Cam Chain Tensioner, one of the known weak spots on these bikes.
They can fail and allow the valves to hit the piston on the affected cylinder. meaning engine work, and if you're really unlucky, a replacement engine needed.

Have a look around on here for info, the thread in the Workshop Knowledgebase section is spot on.

Solutions are to fit manual CCT's or do the "stopper mod". I'll let you look that one up.

Only other item that can catch you out is replacing the regulator/rectifier with one that's less likely to fail and cook the battery.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Hello and welcome from Coventry .
Ccts are cam chain tensioners
And the standard honda parts are prone to fail without worming leading to bent valves and broken piston and a £500 repair bill .
So we advise you do the stopper mod to them or fit manuals . I fitted manuals myself .
And also the standard regulator rectifier is prone to boiling your battery .
Up grade to the newer shape one which has cooling fins on .

He's right, you know, except for the comment about worming. Worms are not a known problem with Firestorms, as far as I know. :lol: :lol: :lol:
Mind you it might explain why they guzzle petrol at such a rate.

(and I repair Storms with damaged valves for £250-£300, valves are £40- odd each, normally two go, and then there's a head gasket (£24), and a couple of shims (£3-5 each). Add in labour, and £250-300 covers it.)

But better swapped out before they go, really.

Is there a walk through guide on here for the CCT? I have looked though the workshop section but can not seem to find it. Must be blind. I am a mechanic so should not be much trouble, failing that the bloke I bought it from is always willing to help.
