Following a recent article in Practical Sportsbikes where a guy had built a TT legends rep Fireblade and used rearsets from Thailand, which he rated highly, and having followed the pappy goes cafe thread on the Superhawk forum I thought I would have a go at building some cheap option adjustable rearsets for the Storm.
I bought some of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILVER-FURY-U ... 3a76bd16ea
I also bought a L/H footrest hanger and was gifted a R/H hanger (thanks again Duffy). I bought some 6082 Aluminium to make up some brackets and I also have some carbon fibre sheet to knock up some heel guards.
So today I have cut down the original hangers, cut the mounting brackets to shape (more to do) and drilled and tapped the mountings. Getting there -
Bit more shaping and then some welding to be done.

I might paint them blue Mac, just to keep the speed up on the bike!
So far they owe me £50 for the rearsets, £5 for the alloy and £14 for the hanger. Carbon Fibre sheet was left over from the sheet I bought for the exhaust heat shields, so it's only a poket money project.
I think I might buy some better quality rose joints for the gearchange.
Carl, the parts all move smoothly but the proof of the pudding and all that old tosh!!

Lloydie I am only using fairly basic tools mate so I can cut and grind the adapter plate which will be welded to the cut down original hanger bracket. The centre plate which mounts to this has all the adjustment for the footrests so thats why I have done it this way.
Seb the adapter plate are made from a lump of 10mm 6082 alluminium sheet. As for patterns etc, afraid not mate just doing it by eye, rule & verniers.
I cut out a carbon fibre kick plate yesterday for the gear side and I am going to re-make the plate that holds the rear brake cylinder sub assembly, as the one supplied is at the wrong angle and the mounting bolts are incorrectly spaced.
Good fun though. They may well look crap when finished but even if they do it won't break the bank.

It would mean having a longer piece of alloy plate welded to the hangers to take the footrests back to roughly the original starting position. The holes in the middle section then give me some adjustment to fine tune my seating position.
Anyway that's the way I've decided to go but I'm sure others will interpret it in their own way.

as i said it looks good kev if we all did things the same or went about it the same it would be a boring world .
and we all would be riding the latest superbikes
